The Sims 2 Installing Packs Problem
Hi.
I'm SO, SO sorry that I am posting this here.
I've got a problem with installing Sims 2's packs. I've installed Sims 2, when I want to install a pack like University, it installs just fine, but when it comes to the end to update the game with the new patch, it gives me an error: Please insert cd4 to continue.
Please note that I've installed and trying to install packs through my hard drive NOT the disc because my DVD drive doesn't work.
I would really be grateful if you helped me out here.

Hello,
Do you still have the "original" .ISO file of your game download ? While I personally recommend to extract the contents of .ISO and .RAR files to empty folders (for the installation), I don't recommend deleting the "original" files.
If you still have that .ISO file, you can use programs like "Daemon tools", "Power ISO" (or whatever) to "mount" the disc to a virtual drive.
Usually, when installing such software, you'll be asked how many "virtual drives" you want to create (but I guess you can of course add them later on too). Now, if you go to your local drives, not only your real hard-drives will be shown, but also the virtual ones. Normally, it's enough when you right-click on a virtual drive and select "Insert disc image" or something similar. Or you can right-click on the .ISO file itself and search for something like "Mount image to virtual drive". Once the image is mounted, you can go on updating.

I have found the ISO file from here: http://gamecopyworld.com/
I mounted it to a virtual drive. I will try what you said later today. Thanks again.
//EDIT
I mounted the iso, but it still gives me the error! What the hell?!
And to be more specific, I downloaded the ISO file from here: http://www.gamecopyworld.com/games/pc_the_sims_2_un.shtml
//EDIT
OK I just created an Image from my own installation files and mounted to a virtual drive. Then I tried to update the patch with the one that I downloaded from MTS, official update. It processed until the end but at the end the program crashed and windows started looking for a solution.

That's interesting...
Can you try running that patch in "compatibility mode", let's say for "Windows XP" ?
And if you want to add something to your post, please use the "edit" button

Oh yeah, I'm sorry for that.
And No, there's no Compatibility mode for Application files. From what I just found out, it seems that windows only can run compatibility mode on Exe files. Patch is just an Application file.
Is this not being updated related to my EPs not working & playing together? I've managed to Install 2 Eps: Business and University by skipping the final update in each installation. And they don't integrate in the game.

It's been a while since I installed The Sims 2, but from where you downloaded your Sims 2 games, did you also get a "crack" file named "Sims2.exe" ? This file is supposed to be placed into C:\Program Files(x86)\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSBin
Can you then try updating again ?
If it DOES work, I would take the cracked "Sims2.exe" again, and copy it again into the location I just mentioned. Then delete all the shortcuts that were created on your desktop; only make one shortcut - namely for the "Sims2.exe".
Another thing, which is different from The Sims 3, is that it's recommended to install the expansions in the order they were released:
- "The Sims 2 University"
- "The Sims 2 Nightlife"
- "The Sims 2 Holiday Party Pack" (A Stuff Pack)
- "The Sims 2 Open for Business"
- "The Sims 2 Family Fun" (A Stuff Pack)
- "The Sims 2 Glamour Life" (A Stuff Pack)
- "The Sims 2 Pets"
- "The Sims 2 Happy Holiday" (A Stuff Pack)
- "The Sims 2 Seasons"
- "The Sims 2 Celebration" (A Stuff Pack)
- "The Sims 2 H&M" (A Stuff Pack)
- "The Sims 2 Bon Voyage"
- "The Sims 2 Teen Style" (A Stuff Pack)
- "The Sims 2 Free Time"
- "The Sims 2 Kitchen and Bath Interior Design" (A Stuff Pack)
- "The SIms 2 Ikea Home" (A Stuff Pack)
- "The Sims 2 Apartment Life"
- "The Sims 2 Mansion and Garden" (A Stuff Pack)
Now try starting the game from the "Sims2.exe" shortcut on your desktop.

I've got crack folders only for University and Night Life. Which game should I crack?
There is also a disable CCD.reg file in the crack folder. What is that?

Have you already tried this one ? http://www.gamecopyworld.com/games/pc_the_sims_2.shtml#The%20Sims%202%20v1.0%20[MULTI]%20No-DVD/Fixed%20EXE
Theoretically, in that case you wouldn't have to mount anything..but let me know your result.

Seeing that your operating system seems to be Windows 8, I'm tempted to think it maybe has to do with that ?
After doing a quick google search, it seemed to confirm my suspicions.
From my installation experience on both my desktop computer and my sister's laptop (we both have Windows 7), I can say that I never had any problems with installing The Sims 2 on Windows 7. But I don't know about Windows 8...
I will think about this problem - if I find enough time, lol. I will update my post, so you might want to check it out regularly.
Other than that, I'm sorry I couldn't help more with that for now.

Do you have these in your Sims 2 base game? TSUPD" and "TSUPD00
Could you upload it for me?

Hello again,
Sorry for the late reply, but I had some trouble to take care of, not only here on the forum, but in "real life" too...
OK, what I didn't mention was that I don't have The Sims 2 installed on my computer anymore. I successfully managed to install that game quite a while ago, but I un-installed it, to make space for the Sims 3.
These two files you mentioned, what are they ? Is it enough to just "have" these two files to have an updated game ?
I will think about your problem, but I can't promise to re-install that game on my computer again. Check out the forum regularly; I will update the topic as soon as I have more things to tell.

Re: The Sims 2 Installing Packs Problem
Hi I've managed to update the game with this method:http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=500523 and installed some EPs except UNI & Night Life because they give an error which I will tell you the message later. But after all these, I still have that a problem.
And that is that I can't play the base game with packs installed. Although I have installed for example Seasons, they don't show up in the game. I can only launch them individually (Base Game+Seasons NOT Base Game+Seasons+Open for Business) you know what I mean? Packs do not integrate with each other.
I apologize for my English.

Re: The Sims 2 Installing Packs Problem
This is the download that I personally used to get my Sims 2 on my laptop (which is also Windows 8 ), and my sister's laptop (Win 7), and the installation went very smoothly both times, and included clear step-by-step instructions. If you can't get the version that you've already downloaded working, I highly recommend this setup.

Thanks for the suggestion. Do you happen to have that guide? Would you be able to give that to me?

Re: The Sims 2 Installing Packs Problem
The instructions were designed just for the format of that installer. The uploader put all the information into one very large iso, and created a nice user interface so it was easy to install. It took me a few downloads to find one that worked this nicely, without screwing around with my computer so that it would all install properly.
