torntv. [SOLVED] Empty torntv. [SOLVED]

Post by Guest Fri 01 Feb 2013, 07:15

Ok. So somehow a program called torntv got onto my computer. It put itself on my start menu. I went into my control panel and proceeded to uninstall it but then, now i am confused. So I just went to uninstall it and it's saying "An error occurred while trying to uninstall TornTv. It may have already been uninstalled. Would you like to remove TornTv from the programs and features list?"
Earlier it told me I didn't have enough data or I wasn't authorized to uninstall it and my avast anti virus program blocked that program or a malicious url. It's not appearing in my Log. The shortcut to the TornTv is still on my startmenu. So I go to the properties of it and lokk in the details tab to see the folder path which is "C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming..." and it gets cut off from there. So I went to my roaming folder and there were soo many folders I just scanned that one. It just said nothing was found. Under the shortcut tab of the TornTv startmenu properties the target is "C:\programs files (x86)\TornTv.com\TornTv.exe" and below that in the Start in: box it has C:\Programs Files (x86)\TornTv.com" So now I open the file location and I see 3 items. torn11.crx torntemp.xpi and TornTv which it's type is application. I scan them but there are no viruses. I am not sure how to approach this problem with care. Edit: So I was able to see the rest of the file loaction that goes to Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Startmenu\Programs\TornTv.com and two shortcuts are in there TornTv and Uninstall.

I had not. I did a bit i research before this post and didn't find anything. After I posted I went back and refined my search and found out that TornTv alone isn't a virus but can, without consent, download adware and spyware, and does it's intended job of letting you watch sports, which I haven't watched since Jordan stopped playing for the Bulls. I was in a panic cause, well I thought my computer was at risk. So I did find out that malbytes, sorry for incorrect spelling, would have gotten rid of it, along with other free programs including my avast program. But like I said avast didn't find anything other than stopping something malicious when trying to unistall from my control panel. Still skeptical I did not just dump anything related to it into the recycle bin, cause I don't think that's how you properly get rid of things. The next step was a restore point, which I had forgotten about, that occurs everyweek. Thankgoodness it was 2 days ago, and multiple times thanks to me getting java, so I went with that. Now I download many many things and I feel, maybe a bit cocky, that I won't download malicious material to my pc cause I look for simple signs. I use torrents mostly and I just compare torrent sizes between different torrent sites. Still I am baffled as to how the program got onto my computer. So as for TornTv avoid it.

Even thought no help was needed, thank goodness, I do thank you personally invalid as well as the staff too. My advice here is to always becareful with downloads, still baffled, and keep a restore point handy. It sucks when you have to wipe your pc. Avoid TornTv!!!!
