No, it's definitely not, although it's very common. Are you using any mods/cc?

Also, after you clear the caches, try in a new game, if you haven't already.

Post by Guest Wed 01 May 2013, 07:36

Over the last week or so, my game has gotten so sluggish that it was almost painful to play it. I had tried numerous things to try and speed it up and I finally found the correct answer so I thought I'd share it.

The first thing I did was go through my hard drive and delete any unnecessary files to free up some disk space, but that didn't seem to help. Then I tried Pam's suggestion and move all my screenshots to a different folder to try and free up some space in the game. That didn't seem to help either. I felt like there HAD to be something, somewhere that was slowing down my game, so I started looking in all the game files. I knew I had not installed any new CC or any mods so it couldn't be that.

I came across the folder called DCbackup located in My Documents--> Electronic Arts--> The Sims 3--> DCbackup. I looked at those files and realized that they were just a bunch of backup files of all the package files ever used in the game. I did some checking to make sure it was ok to delete those and found out that it was fine. Once any CC is installed, it's there in your game, so you really don't need backups of it. But if it will make you feel better, you can always move all of those files to another folder somewhere other than your Sims 3 folder. But the best thing to do is just to delete all of those files in the DCbackup folder. In fact, it's probably a good idea to clean it out weekly or monthly....depending on how often you play.

Once I deleted all of those files, I was amazed at how much better my game played! It's like brand new again! I think that folder basically acts as a cache to hold all the items that are used in the game for easier access. The problem is, just like with web browsing, once you get too much junk in there, it just slows everything down.

Also do NOT deleted the ccmerged file, it will ruin your game.
Check out this link for the rest of the things you can safely delete to make your game run smoother.

Hello,

It might be worth a try: you could also download and install
the "Traveler" mod and use it to travel to University. Before you do so, please back up your savefiles (in Windows it's located in Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Saves). And should anything go wrong, don't save!

Hello again,

It should work if you click on the smartphone and select "leave university/travel home" (search for that option)..
However, I tried it myself again now, and what I saw was that my sim always reset himself when I wanted to travel back home. After that a message popped up from the "ErrorTrap" mod.
So it seems that "ErrorTrap" causes problems with that; if you have that mod, then uninstall it.

Well, in my language-version of the game, I need to click the smartphone, and then there is an option called "more..." (I don't know what this is called in other language versions) - and under that option is "leave University".

Hey Phoebe and Zee93,

OK, if there is really no option to travel back (which is strange because I have it, but OK), then you might have a look at my suggestions in
that topic Smile.

//EDIT

The problem is of course a different one (in the link I posted), but maybe it works here too.

Hello again,

Now that sounds strange
Shocked
But, there might be a workaround if you want to move to another town: it's the Porter mod.
You might want to experiment with that, as I personally haven't used it yet, but it seemed to help lots of others
Smile. Just try finding out where the Porter menu is (try clicking on the city hall, then your Sim, etc.).

//Edit: If you need to share a save again, make a zip file of the save Razz

/Edit 2: I got the save loaded up, and had no problem with it running. However, the family wouldn't save to my bin either. But from their family name, I would imagine you used porter, then just place the resulting crowd of a family into the town?
