Manual patch problems/Black screen requiring a reboot Empty Manual patch problems/Black screen requiring a reboot

Post by Guest Wed 25 Sep 2013, 18:53

I have had some extreme problems with patching my game (i think it had something with me downloading 2 expansion packs and then removing them), basically it wont patch TS3W.exe, so after 3 re-downloads of the patch (which took ages because I'm using a dial-up mobile broadband dongle.. thingie.. which is limited to downloading/uploading max 20 gigabytes per month) I decided to check out the manual patch which is 1.3 gigabytes big (O_O) but it seemed like it would work.
After waiting around 8 years for it to finish I am greeted with an error message:

Code:
>SetupNew\setup.cpp (140)
PAPP:
PVENDOR:
PGUID:
$
@Windows Vista Serviec Pack 0 (6000)
IE Version: 8.0.7600.16385
That started to piss me off, I dont wanna re-download the patch because, well, limited internet and it will take ages.
Whats wrong? I've tried starting it as an administrator and compability mode, but that doesnt work.
I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate Build 7600 (?) and the Sims 3 expansion packs I have are:
The Sims 3 World Adventures
Diesel Stuff
Ambitions
Showtime
Late Night
Generations
High End Loft Stuff
Master Suite Stuff
Town Life Stuff
Outdoor Living Stuff
Seasons
Supernatural

This error simply means what you downloaded is corrupted.
Please download it again using Google Chrome. The download must have gone wrong...

Oh...
god..
I downloaded it with Chrome though.

EDIT: Would it help if I reinstalled all the games? I'd rather do that than re-download it.

Nope. If you get the error while launching the Manual Patch, then this is what you need to download again.

I solved this by uninstalling the game and updating normally, took a good 8 hours but now I'm stuck on a black screen.
Imma make a new thread tho, thanks!

Oh, woops. Just posted the thread. Just felt like it didnt fit in this category.

//EDIT

Heres probably the most serious and irritating issue I've ever had (except for my internet not working for one computer, that took ages to fix)

I reinstalled all my Sims 3 games today and after wasting 5 gigabytes on my 20 gigabyte-per-month dial-up internet (we cant afford anything else!) for patching and 8 hours, I was greeted with the beautiful loading screen of Seasons (which I bought just this monday!).
After the loading screens were done, the "Connecting.." popup thingie popped up and after a minute or so, my monitor shut down and said "GOING TO SLEEP MODE". My computer was still running and I couldnt do any key combination, so I rebooted my computer and it was back to normal.
Tried running it in windowed mode, compability mode, administrator, DEP disabled, updating graphics drivers, setting affinity, starting without the launcher..
Nothing.
The closest I got to was when I did the Affinity thing and it got to "TS3 has stopped working.". Atleast I made progress, but that only happened one time.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate Build 7600 (pirated o:) with all original games, no mods installed, no cracks installed and with the latest patch.
I really dont wanna download the manual patch cause I'm afraid I'll get the error of corrupted files and have to redownload it again and again.
My computer does fulfil the requirements for the game, in fact, its great compared to the requirements.

Hello,

I am guessing this is because of overheating. Can you go to Control Panel >> System and Security >> View Event Logs (under administrative tools) >> Double-click the event type "Error". If the even log viewer tells you that your computer was overheating: "System shutdown due to graphics card overheating" or something similar, your pc was overheating when you were playing The Sims 3.

I have a bunch of information popups, but the errors I have are the following:

Code:
The ScRegSetValueExW call failed for FailureActions with the following error:
Access Is Denied

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed or lost power unexpectedly.

The previous system shutdown at 04:22:51 on 2013-09-26 was unexpected

And then I have a billion (literally) error messages saying:

Code:
System shutdown due to graphics card overheating

How do I solve this? My computer is actually opened up and has been, it also has like 6 or 7 fans in it.

Is your graphic card an ATI/AMD graphic card? If yes, try switching off Powerplay. This can be a problem. If you don't know how, other helpers/moderators can help you with that. Sorry but I have to go.

The fun thing is that CCC wont start, so I googled up the problem and found something that told me to boot into Safe mode and run "Driver Sweeper".
However, when I'm in safe mode, apparently PowerPlay takes place (Even though the drivers are uninstalled!) and makes the computer crash.
?!
EDIT: Nevermind, CCC started now. Gonna try your tips now.
EDIT 2: What are the max frequencies for an ATI Radeon 3800 Series card?
EDIT 3: I tried disabling Graphics Overdrive and it seems to work, although the temperature is between 95°C and 115°C. I'm not sure if its good if my computer tries running Sims 3.

Hello,

Can you tell me if crashing only happens when playing with old saves? Can you create a new save to see if this happens?

I didnt try it with an old save, I was creating a new family and when I was done with two sims and started on the third, the first option-page (where you pick what gender you want your sim to be, your name etc) turned black and then it said "Sims3 has stopped responding."

Hello,

Can you delete the following caches in C:\Users\(your computer name)\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3:

Create-a-Sim Cache: CasPartCache.package
Build/Buy mode cache: compositorCache.package
Mod or custom content cache: scriptCache.package
New Sims and skin cache: simCompositorCache.package
Look for a folder that says Thumbnails. Delete anything inside of it.
Look for WorldCaches (you may not have this folder) and delete anything inside of it.
