Deleting files from game? Empty Deleting files from game?

Post by Guest Sun 06 Oct 2013, 19:01

Hi! So I need to clear up some space in my computer, and I have about 48.2GB worth of Sims games. I want to keep the game of course, and I've deleted everything else I could delete. Is there anything from the games that I can delete and still keep the game working? I always delete the .rar files once it's extracted, but it doesn't do much at this point. So yeah, I just wanted to know if I could delete any files after I've installed the game and everything. Thanks!

Hello,

1) You can, for a start, un-install a few stuff packs or even expansion, which you don't like.

2) If you have lots of "unused" savefiles, and if you think you don't need them anymore, then you can delete them too. They're in My documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Saves. You can recognize "unused" saves by their name: so if you have such a file, then it has a ".backup" ending - AND there is no other folder with the same name. Example: if you have the folders Hidden Springs.sims3 AND Hidden Springs.sims3.backup, then you should not delete them (unless you want to). If you ONLY have the one with the ".backup", then this means that you deleted the save from the main menu, though you can recover it by removing the .backup-ending. In general, before deleting saves, it might be a good idea to back them up somewhere.

3) If you have lots of custom content in ".package" file format, then you can delete them from
My documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Mods/Packages. Just watch out if you want to delete (core) mods. In some cases, you have to "deactivate" the mods inside the game before you remove them from the Mods/Packages folder. Read the descriptions of the mods you have for more on that.

4) If you have custom content in ".sims3pack" format, then it's a bit more difficult; you can either delete them from the launcher; or you can completely remove them all at once, by this method here. However, if you choose the latter, you'll have to re-install those .sims3packs that you really want to have, because this method wipes out all installed .sims3packs.

5) If your base game patch level is 1.55 or higher, then you can go to
My documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/DCCache. There, delete all files with a .tmp ending, but nothing else ! If you start the game from the launcher though, these files will be regnerated, so you might want to start the game directly with the TS3W.exe in the base game location.

OK, that was quite a lot. I hope it helps you Very Happy
