Port Forwarding Empty Port Forwarding

Post by J.T. Mon 09 Dec 2013, 19:02

Hello to whom that knows port forwarding,

First of all thanks to Admin for providing the link to portforward.com. The guide there is pretty straightforward and I can follow it without questions. I didn't manage to find my router Huawei HG8045, but I did manage to find one (Huawei HG8245 guide link: http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Huawei/HG8245/defaultguide.htm) that is reminiscent to the one I use, with similar panels like this:

Port Forwarding 5hjeb10

and this:

Port Forwarding 5hjx010

Pretty much the same, so I followed the guide. I entered the port that BitTorrent is using (shown by Peferences >> Connection OR BitTorrent Setup Guide) to the fields as per instructions. I chose TCP at first as the Protocol, but it didn't work, so I chose both.

The point is, even though I followed the guide to a T, I still couldn't have my port forwarded. I tested the port with BitTorrent Setup Guide, only to give me the result saying my port was not opened.

I tested with PFPortChecker too with no avail. Next, I initiated an online Port Forwarding test: http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/. The result is yes, I had forwarded the port.

So what actually is the root of the problem? Well, if no one can answer it, that's okay, since it doesn't affect much actually (I can download The Sims 3 Supernatural with 7.0MB/s without port forwarding, so I guess port forwarding won't have a significant effect on the download speed).

Port Forwarding Empty Re: Port Forwarding

Hello,

Indeed, port forwarding mainly affects the upload speed.
Note that the the port has to forward to your PC's internal IP address. So when an external service comes in via port (for example) 21 on your router, it'll be forwarded to your PC.

I do, and see that drop-down table besides Internal IP Address field? I choose my own, and I even verify it with command prompt ipconfig command.
