EA celebrates Playstation’s 20th anniversary, offers 3 free games. [PS3, PS4, PS Vita]

At the PlayStation Experience expo held in Las Vegas, Nevada this weekend,Peter Moore, chief operations officer for major game development studioElectronic Arts, offered free gifts to console owners.

As part of the 20th anniversary celebration for the PlayStation brand, EA – one of the developers that rose to power by providing games for the series of Sony consoles – made it clear on Sunday that it wanted to thank longtime customers by making three of its games free to download for the weekend.

EA chose a title for each of Sony’s major consoles right now – the PlayStation 4, the PlayStation 4, and the PlayStation Vita handheld device - in order to say thank you to fans of their games that have appeared on PlayStation consoles throughout the years. PS4 fans can download Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare, a title developed this year, while PS3 owners are free to download the classic and critically acclaimed first-person running game Mirror’s Edge. Meanwhile, PS Vita players were welcome to their very own copy of Need For Speed: Most Wanted, the portable version of EA’s beat-the-police racing game franchise. EA is offering the games free to download until midnight Sunday Pacific time when the PlayStation Experience expo comes to an end, providing users a welcome chance to walk off with a classic EA title for no money whatsoever.

While Electronic Arts has had its share of criticism in the past for its sharp business practices – it has famously received the Consumerist’s “Golden Poo” award for being voted the Worst Company Ever for both 2012 and 2013 – this new move on the part of the US-based gaming publisher and development studio is likely an effort to help revamp its image. EA managed to not win the 2014 award from the Consumerist, being beaten out in the first round by cable company Time Warner Cable. The ultimate winner of the 2014 Golden Poo was fellow cable company Comcast, indicating that perhaps consumers have bigger fish to fry when it comes to terrible tactics employed by US corporations in the search for ever increasing profit margins.

Can you believe though that I only (very briefly) played with the PS1 and the PS2, way back ? So my knowledge of more "modern" game consoles is very limited.

lol.. i hear ya. well if you have a good enough pc, there really is no need for a console. i was mainly a pc gamer from like 94' to around 2002. i was getting wares games before i ever even heard of internet lol. back then we had dial up BBS's aka Bulletin board's. if your not familiar, you'd use your pc to dialup and connect to the BBS, and they had chat, dowloads, messaging etc. miss those days, it was a good way to make local friends.

nice to see EA taking care of it's customers. between this and the on the house games, they may be most hated by most, i think they are my favorite game studio. nobody else gives away so many free games that i found. i have a nice little Origin game collection going thanks to that.

I also own 10 games on steam, and never bought a single one. just good at tracking free game giveaways i guess lmao. XD
