Soon to be RIP HDD.
Heellppppp Meeeee33333
I got a new HDD because Windows keeps giving me a friendly reminder that my HDD is broken (idk? keeps telling me to restart to fix it but that's not helping)
So anyway - my grandad gave me his old one! o3o
BUT... Windows is not showing it when I click 'My PC' -- none of windows is showing it anywhere
Someone help me so it can show? I know it's plugged in correctly<3 I need to move programs off of this one and onto a new one before it's too late :'( *que overdramatic music*
*que picture of my HDD* AND IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIIIIIII WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHUUUUUUUHUUUUHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU 3>

So which is it, did you get a new one or did someone give you a used one? If it's the later, did they wipe it clean before they passed it on to you? And did it work for a while or did it do this from the start?
Bring up the BIOS Settings, go to SATA configuration and change the SATA mode to something else (AHCI, RAID or IDE) and see if it changes anything. Generally IDE is for older hardware, while new ones as well as SSD's generally run with AHCI. I'm not sure when RAID is used, but you can try that one too. Either way, this will corrupt your OS regardless of what setting you use so be ready to reformat afterwards.
PS: Remember what setting it had by default, if this doesn't work you'll likely want to revert back to that just to be safe.

My grandad wiped it clean and it did this from the start.

Re: Soon to be RIP HDD.
Hi there,
Guess I'm too late?
For future reference, if a connected HDD doesn't show up or "respond", try opening start and typing diskgmgmt.msc followed by pressing [ENTER]. This will bring up the disk management window. (Or use [CTRL] + [R] to open the "run" window, then type diskmgmt.msc followed by [ENTER], which does the same)
Now connect and disconnect the HDD and see if you see a difference in the detected HDDs. There's a chance that the hard disk either needs to be formatted, or you just need to assign it a drive letter, by right-clicking on it and choosing "Change or remove drive letter...". After assigning a drive letter, it should pop-up in Computer.
