Make video file have 16:9 aspect ratio Empty Make video file have 16:9 aspect ratio

Post by Guest Wed 20 Jan 2016, 07:32

My new TV can play some video formats from USB Drive, but most movies are not really 16:9 so my TV stretches the image. Can anyone recommend a program to ad the black borders? Preferably something that works fast, because if it takes as long or longer than watching the movie on my PC all of this has no point.

Hello,

In my eyes, it's not going to be worth the hassle of re-converting the videos themselves, but feel free to wait for a second opinion on that. I also suppose you checked your TV for an option to alter the aspect ratio "manually" ?

I remember, with my old TV that I had (shortly before flatscreens started to become common/popular over here), it not only allowed me to select a number of different aspect ratios, but it also "artificially" added those black horizontal borders to the 16:9 ratio setting. Which worked pretty fine for me. Adding to that, the TV was capable of detecting automatically what aspect ratio the program was recorded in. If the program was recorded or broadcasted in 4:3, you'd get a square picture on the TV by default. If the program was in 16:9, you'd get a more rectangular-shaped picture - with black borders.

That TV, though not a flatscreen, was a higher-end model back then. I'm not sure if these things have become standard in modern flatscreens, but yes.

If I were in your situation, I probably wouldn't bother (re-)converting those video files.

Hi,

Doesn't the remote have an option to resize the movie playing?

The remote does have a button to change between 4:3, full and 2 levels of zoom. But that doesn't work when playing media from the USB drive. Then it becomes fast-forward.
One of the movies I tried to watch has a resolution of 1920*800.

Another possibility could be burning those video files to discs (if you have a DVD-player). While that would come close to being a hassle, it would still be something I myself would consider in that situation. Other than that I'm afraid I can't suggest anything else, sorry.

No, I do not have a DVD player.I mentioned that movies resolution because it's thinner than normal. I need to make it 1920*1080 from 1920*800.

//EDIT

I tried to use Camtasia but in 30 minutes it only did 4%. I give up.
