***Spoiler warning: the use of cheats may spoil any surprises in your in-game experience in TS4. Use the following post at your own risk !***  Twisted Evil Very Happy

Last updated on 19-02-2016.

Hello all,

In the following I am going to attempt to write down a basic collection of in-game cheats for The Sims 4. Note that there are far more cheats for the game out there, than those that are outlined in this post, so the collection of cheats I made here is pretty much a subjective choice. Also note that in many instances, I have (over)simplified certain things, and there may be mistakes too. Should you spot any mistakes such as typos, inaccuracies or the like, or if you have any suggestions regarding further cheat-types, feel free to send me a private message on the forum here. Depending on what you write, I will then either consider putting more cheats in the future here, or rectify any mistakes (for which you will be given proper credit too, in this post).

Note that whenever I use square brackets in this post, it means you ONLY need the specific value denoted in it. You MUST NOT type these actual square brackets in your cheat codes !

In order to open the cheat console in The Sims 4, press CTRL + SHIFT + C when you are in "Live mode". At the top of the screen you should now see a window in white, where you can type in and enter a number of cheats. Once you typed in a cheat, you will need to press ENTER on your keyboard to activate/toggle it.

1.) "Testingcheats"

For a lot of (the following) cheats in this guide you will need to set the game's cheat status to "on". In order to do that, open the cheat console as described above, type testingcheats true and then hit enter. Note that when the game enters into some form of loading screen, for example when you travel, or even visit a different part/lot in your neighborhood, then the status will normally reset itself again. So you will need to repeat typing this cheat then.

One typical use of this particular cheat is to enable hidden options. For example, with this "testingcheats" activated, you can hold SHIFT and then click on your sims and objects (like the mailbox) to bring up a variety of hidden options, which should be self-explanatory at this point.

Another use is that you can then also activate the cheat cas.fulleditmode, which will allow you to edit your sim(s) in CAS.

2.) Basic relationship-cheats

modifyrelationship [active sim's first name] [active sim's second name] [target sim's first name] [target sim's second name] [amount] Friendship_Main

...this code allows you to add a certain amount of friendship score points to your active sim. The amount can range from 1-100. Example: modifyrelationship John Black Brenda Miller 100 Friendship_Main.

Keep in mind that in order for this to be more efficient, you need to apply the procedure to both sims ! In my example, "John Black" receives those extra friendship points, but then I decide to simply switch the position of the names, so that the cheat looks like this: modifyrelationship Brenda Miller John Black 100 Friendship_Main.

You can also put a negative value in front of the [amount], by simply putting a minus-symbol there.

modifyrelationship [active sim's first name] [active sim's second name] [target sim's first name] [target sim's second name] [amount] Romance_Main

...and this code allows you to edit the romance-status of two sims. The principles above apply here too.

3.) Other, more general cheats

Help - provides you with an overview/list of a few cheats.
HeadlineEffects [on/off] - thought bubbles of sims will be turned on or off.
Fullscreen [on/off] - allows you to toggle between fullscreen and windowed mode in The Sims 4.
FPS [on/off] - this cheat will toggle the number of rendered frames per second, in the bottom left part of the screen.

ResetSim [first name] [last name] - this cheat will teleport your sim in a "neutral" manner, into his or her home. Useful for use with stuck sims or the like.

Death.toggle false - sims cannot pass away anymore.
Death.toggle true - sims can pass away again.
sims.hard_reset - the active sim will abort all current interactions.
sims.modify_in_cas - this option will open the CAS for your current/active household.
sims.spawnsimple - a random sim will spawn.
sims.Spawn - a random sim will spawn and will be added to your active household.

bb.showhiddenobjects - in build-mode, type "debug" in the search bar to display hidden items
bb.moveobjects - you can place objects without (most) constraints. Use the keys "9" and "0" to change the height. The cheat can be useful for e.g. connecting kitchen counters properly in some cases.

bb.ignoregameplayunlocksentitlement - you can now buy objects (in build-mode) for which you normally need to reach a certain career level !

bb.enablefreebuild - allows you to edit/build on lots that cannot otherwise be edited.

4.) Money-related cheats

money [amount] - set the household funds for your active sim family, according to the value you enter in [amount].
households.autopay_bills [true/false] - this cheat code enables the autopayment of bills, if the value is set on "true" here.
kaching - adds 1,000 simoleons to your active household's funds
motherlode - adds 50,000 simoleons to your active household's funds

5.) Emotions/Mood changing

You can change the mood of your active sim, but before doing so, you must reset your sim's mood to "Okay" (if he or she isn't already in that particular mood already...). Use the following cheat for doing so:

sims.remove_all_buffs

Once you did that, you can "assign" your sim a new mood with the following cheat:

sims.add_buff [see below for buffs]

In the bracket above, you will need to insert one of these:

ConfidentHigh
EnergizedHigh
FlirtyHigh
e_Buff_Happy
InspiredHigh
FocusedHigh
PlayfulHigh
SadHigh
e_Buff_Angry

What each of these buff-codes stands for should be self-explanatory. Very Happy

6.) Aspirations/Happiness

If you want your sim to complete the current aspiration-milestone, use the following cheat-code:
aspirations.complete_current_milestone

And with this code you can add 100 happiness points for your sim, however, it seems you cannot use this code several times in a row (in order for that to do, you would need to reset the mood of your sim with the code sims.remove_all_buffs):
sims.add_buff Satifaction_points

7.) Skills

You can use the following cheat codes to set particular skills of your sim to a certain level. The cheat will be applied to the sim in your (active) household that you have currently selected.
stats.set_skill_level [insert skill name] [1-10]

Where it says "insert skill name", use one of these followed by a number from 1 to 10, all without the square brackets of course.

Major_Fishing
Major_Charisma
Major_Comedy
Skill_Fitness
Major_Gardening
Major_Violin
Major_Handiness
Major_Guitar
Major_GourmetCooking
Major_Piano
Major_Bartending
Major_Programming
Major_RocketScience
Major_Mischief
Major_Writing
Major_VideoGaming
Major_Herbalism
Major_Logic
Major_Baking
Major_Painting
Major_Photography
Major_Reaping
Major_Wellness
Skill_Child_Creativity
Skill_Child_Mental
Skill_Child_Motor
Skill_Child_Social

Again, these codes should be self-explanatory. As an example, let's say my sim wants to reach max level in baking, hence the cheat that I type will look like this: stats.skill_set_level Major_Baking 10.

8.) Careers and schooling

You can put your sim into a new career-path with the following code:
Careers.add_career [insert name of career, see below]

With this code you can promote your sim to the next level in the job:
Careers.promote [insert name of career, see below]

And with this code you can demote your sim:
Careers.demote [insert name of career, see below]

Finally, you can simply just end your current sim's career:
Careers.remove_career [insert name of career, see below]

The following is a list of career codes, that you need to enter where it says "insert name of career", in the codes above.

astronaut
entertainer
secretggent
culinary
painter
writer
techGuru
criminal
detective
doctor
business
athletic
Gradeschool
Highschool

9.) Collectibles

For the following codes, after you successfully entered them, the object of your choice should appear in the middle of your lot, and you can then drag it into your sim's inventory. However, it is possible that when you put the items in your inventory, and then decide to play with a different household (i.e. you switch active households), then the object(s) in the inventory may disappear, but you can simply re-use the cheat again. Also note that if you want to sell those items after you put them in the inventory, you should sell them via the build-mode of the game. For easier readability I will put the following cheats inside a "spoiler"-block.

All these following codes look like this: objects.gsi_create_obj [insert code here]. The code is followed by a few empty spaces, after which there is a description of which collectible/item is produced by inserting the particular code.

Keep in mind that these codes have been "found" by modders of The Sims 4, and have not been officially released by EA. Some users recommend using these following codes with caution only. To be safe, I would suggest you make regular backups of your savefiles, located under Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\saves. And should you notice anything strange or alarming after using any of these codes, please exit the game without saving (ideally though, you should have saved the game beforehand, so that you don't lose too much in-game progress there).
