Deleting cache files in The Sims 2.
Hello,
Do you experience issues where The Sims 2 does not run when it is started up ? Or does the game crash while loading ? Then it could indicate a problem with your cache files. Note that similar issues can happen when using the "Bodyshop" too, which is a tool that can help you create sims or CAS items (hair, clothing, etc.). The location of the Bodyshop is shown here (if you installed all expansions up to Mansion and Garden Stuff).
The cache files themselves can be deleted as follows. Navigate to C:\Users\(your username)\Documents\EA GAMES\The Sims 2, and look for the following items.
Accessory.cache, Groups.cache & cigen.package. Sometimes, you may have a file named Content Registry too. All these files can be safely deleted, as they will be re-created upon the next game start. If you don't have some of these files, don't worry, and just delete what you do have instead.
Related to the problem, if you experience issues with the in-game thumbnails in Sims 2 or the Bodyshop, it may be an idea to delete the thumbnail cache. Look again at the screenshot above, and go inside the subfolder Thumbnails. Delete ALL contents inside the subfolder.
Then try running the game again. Good luck for now !
