We've all experienced this, you run the game, wait a little bit, and then suddenly your sims game (which is a black screen mind you) minimizes. You get the following message:

"It looks like you have installed an unofficial game modification that does not match your current version of The Sims 3...."

If you are still having this issue, here is what you can do to solve it. Or at least diagnose the source of the problem..

WARNING! BEFORE DOING ANY OF THIS, MAKE SURE ALL OF YOUR GAME EXPANSIONS ARE UP TO DATE BEFORE CONTINUING! OR YOU MAY EXPERIENCE ERRORS! THIS TUT ALSO ASSUMES THAT YOU'VE CORRECTLY APPLIED
THE SIMS 3 ULTIMATE FIX!

This is not neccesary but it would help to do this first - SET TO COMPATIBILITY MODE (credit to AlsaW from Mod The Sims):

1. Right click on whatever sims 3 icon you have (original, EP or SP) (The one from which you launch the actual game)
2. Click on properties
3. Go to compatibility tab
4. Tick the box for "run this program in compatibility mode for"
5. Select whatever version of windows you are running.
6. Click OK

NOW FOR THE IMPORTANT STUFF! (or not)

Now that you can run the game as an admin (if not already), follow these steps:

1. RENAME your Mods folder. For me it's located within:

C:\Users\InsertUserNameHere\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3.

Rename it to anything, just so the game cannot detect it.

2. Run the game, it should start now! If it's not and you still get the error, then it's trying to tell you that you have an unofficial expansion (Pets, Ambitions, etc.) or that you need to update your base game. The key is to single out which mod was causing the error in the first place.

3. Simply start afresh. Make a new folder in that same Sims 3 Document folder. C:\Users\InsertUserNameHere\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3

call the new folder "Mods".

4. Now, one by one add in your previous mods until you get the error again. Afterwards, you will then know which one is causing the issue!

5. Either update that particular mod or remove it if it's still causing an issue. After that, Enjoy!

Hope this helps!  Very Happy  -Gig

Hello,

Well... I can tell you that the only fix to this error is just applying the latest version of the Ultimate Fix. It has been modified so that the error won't pop-up any more. Just be sure you're using the latest version of the Fix.

True. But I've clarified on those who've installed the Ultimate Fix correctly but also have different third-party mods installed (awesomemod for example) which may be incompatible with an expansion or two. This helps you diagnose whether you either have issues with installing your cracks or just some incompatible mod.

For example. Just now I realized that awesomemod 1.24 package brings up the error but the nointro package doesn't for the latest version of sims 3 and all the expansions Smile

Hello,
Actually this is very useful for those who are using mods.
With the latest fix, you can only get the unofficial game modification from an outdated mod, especially the more complicated mods like awesomemod and the ones from nraas/Twallan need to be up to date with your current game version.
