Actions do not complete [please help?] Empty Actions do not complete [please help?]

Post by Guest Sat 25 Mar 2017, 13:31

after a while, my sims just stand around not finishing their actions... i can't cancel them at all.
deleting "localthumbcache.package" helps, but only for a little while longer. then after a few minutes of gameplay everyone just stands still or stops what they're doing without cancelling their actions. sometimes when i go to the world or main menu and back into the game, they continue what they were doing, but again, only for a few minutes.

please advise?

//EDIT

"console doesn't open"
i've had an issue for a few weeks now is that the console doesn't open when i press ctrl+shift+c (in any combination of left and right ctrl and shift keys). i don't have gyazo, so that's not the issue; and before launching the game, i close down lightshot.

edit: there's also nothing that i can see that uses any of the combination keys opened while i play the game.

please advise?

for some reason, it does work. it's just not any of those combinations... for me, it's ctrl+shift+windows key+c - that made the console work. pressing the same combination again closes it.

Mod edit: topics merged.

It won't work because another application is using it either CTRL, SHIFT, C or all of these.

there isn't anything though. like at all. the only thing using ctrl or shift is windows, and i can't exactly close that lol
otherwise, i only play sims by itself. i don't even keep chrome opened

a few, none of them at fault (i tested playing with zero mods at one point to see if it would work)

I get the argument, but that would also imply that if you had - let's say - 100 "different issues", you would be allowed to open 100 different threads as well. Smile

The real idea and convention behind the rule is, that all questions about the same game/software go in just one (1) thread until all issues have been resolved, upon which the original topic will be locked and marked as "solved". Also keep in mind that issues can be interrelated, so it could be better to just stick in one thread because of that as well. However, if that user comes back in the future, they can open a new thread. My opinion is that the rule #6 here should be clear:
https://games4theworld.forumotion.com/t22990-forum-rules#153250

But it may also have to be simplified in good time. It's a minor issue, no worries, but it's one of the things that not many users are aware of either.

As for your original TS4 problem, I'm afraid I can't say much. All these issues that people are posting about here, I myself have not experienced one of them.

It's been quite a few days since you've posted this so I don't know if you've fixed your issue or not but try this:

1) Make a backup of your The Sims 4 folder (found in Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4) Put this backup in your desktop or anywhere else in your computer.
2) Rename The Sims 4 folder (found in Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4) to The Sims 4_Backup (You could technically skip out on step 1 if you do this but I like to be super careful and do both)
3) Start your game as an administrator. Your save file will be gone and the game will act as if you had opened up for the first time but don't panic, you made a backup so you will be able to get your save file back in game no problem. We'll add the backup later, but for now lets see how the game runs without it.

4) Now create a new family and play them for a while. Check to see if console opens up and to see if you get the problem with sims not completing certain actions. The game should run fine now, if it doesn't it might be a problem with your computer, installation of the game, or perhaps some sort of bug that hasn't been fixed yet.
5) If everything is fine then close the game and start adding your backup back into your The Sims 4 folder (found in Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4) DON'T add everything back in though. These are the only folders you need to add back in:
- Mods (assuming that you've already excluded the possibility of it being a mod-related issue by running the game without the mods folder)
- Recorded Videos (if any)
- Saves
- Screenshots (if any)
- Tray
- Custom Music (if you've made any changes to it)

6) Run your game again to see if it works fine.

@The_gh0stm4n - ah ok x] good to know - i'll remember it for next time

@bloodsport - i haven't yet. i've only been able to "patch" the issue by deleting two of my cache files - i'm not really sure which one is helping, but after a couple of hours playing everything stands still again

will follow the guide and report back as soon as i have something to report, though - thank you for the instructions

edit: removing the documents' sims4 folder didn't allow for the console command to open. still playing through to see if everyone stops eventually - will start loading back files in to play with my old family to test this out (otherwise it'll take days to test it xD)

@eksynn

I hope that the solution works for you. I was having the same issue as you (granted not as a severe) and this fixed it for me.

As for the console not opening that is very weird. I can only guess you have some other program active on your computer that uses that shortcut without you knowing it. But you already discarded that issue earlier so I all I can think of is that maybe there is something wrong with your ingame resolution. Are you perhaps using some sort of resolution that cuts off part of the screen?

edit: have you tried pressing CTRL on the left side SHIFT on the right side and C? I heard this works for some people

alas, it didn't work =c i'm going to try making a new save with my current family (saved it to the library thing) to see if that helps any, but the console menu still isn't opening...

i don't really have any other stuff opened right now besides the game and chrome, which doesn't use the shortcuts as far as i know. even then, it was closed until a moment ago, so the game was the only thing running.
i also tried every combination of ctrl, shift and c possible. i even tried replacing either ctrl and shift with alt, as well as adding it to the mix - both alts, too (alt and altgr)

i'm really trying very hard not to reinstall the game.. but it might be the only option to have the console command up and running again >.<
but for now, it's a minor issue in comparison to everyone not doing anything - the game keeps running though. time keeps ticking, birds keep flying, cars keep driving (wait, what? cars?)... and every sim just stands around like aliens suddenly invaded everyone's minds at the same time.

forcing the game into going into CAS and exiting again fixes it temporarily
going into world edit and back also does it temporarily
deleting the cache files also does it temporarily
testing new save to see if it's something to do with the neighborhood or something.

Have you checked background processes as well? By opening up the task manager and clicking "More Details" on the lower left corner?

Also what kind of keyboard layout do you have? I have heard that Nordic players have to use different commands for resizing items because their keyboards are set up differently. I assume different players from different countries could have similar issues, but Im not sure.

nothing that looks like it could interfere.. just the normal windows processes

as for the keyboard layout, i'm using a QWERTY layout ABNT Keyboard - as far as i understand, the ctrl, alt, shift and c keys should be in the same location as an american keyboard o O i'll try swapping the layout to see if that works.
it didn't.

as far as the freezing-sims thing goes, tried a completely new save file and it still just.. stalls. again, game keeps running normally, but everyone just stands still doing idle animations that don't require rezzing out items (like standing around whistling and dancing and making vocal sounds, as opposed to drinking, playing with inventory toys, doing homework, or using the phone for any reason)

The buttons should indeed be the same for a Portuguese keyboard. I googled it to make sure and found a few blogs in Portuguese that do indeed use CTRL + Shift + C. Don't know what else could be affecting your input.

The only other solutions I can think of is to try an on screen keyboard (if that's even an options for The Sims 4) or to maybe set up some sort of macro that presses those keys for you using another button. Or if you have a spare keyboard maybe test that. Or try some sort of "test keyboard input" website online to see if those keys are working properly.

Still don't know what could be causing your other issue though. I found a lot of threads online while I was experiencing it myself, but most seemed to fix it with the solution I provided. I'll keep looking to see if I find another suggestion.

should i try reinstalling the game? i'll need to re-download the entire thing again, since i accidentally deleted it >.< which is why i've been avoiding it completely...
lucky, i found all of my installation files on a separate hard drive xD

i actually did try the on-screen keyboard with sims4 in window mode... but that was a while ago xD i remember it not working. i could try again, i suppose. will report back.

any luck on finding any more suggestions besides re-installing the game? x.x;

I sort of found something yesterday. I was watching this video on YouTube where this guy was doing a challenge and the same thing kept happening with his sims. It had to do with the fact that he had too many sims in his lot and his computer couldn't handle the load so the sims kept doing the same thing yours do. So here are my questions:

- what are your specs?
- what graphics settings are you using? (low, medium, high, etc.)
- how many sims are in your lot?

  2. custom (mostly set to high) graphics settings
  3. probably more than i should.. xD

Your specs are about the same as mine and I don't have any issues.
Might be that you just have too many sims in your lot. My game personally runs smoothly when I got 1-4 sims per lot. But sometimes I go on my Legacy lot where I got 8 sims in the same house and then invite some guests over and I start having problems

my game used to run smoothly with more than 8 (i have a mod to enable that) in the lot - this just started recently out of the blue.. i figured it was cache, but the only cache file i know to delete only works temporarily

i'm wondering if it's how many sims EXIST in the game, in specific at the same time in the neighbourhood... is there a way to limit that?

Hi again @ekysynn ,

It seems the thread was actually started in March and I've understand you managed to get the console bar to pop-up now.

Are there any lingering issues/bugs you're currently facing with?

Also, if you have the no culling mod, the game will automatically deletes homeless townies in your game at midnight, so even if you see there's a lot of townies around, they will be gone if they don't 'live' at that neighborhood.
