Let us take a moment to bash our skulls in with our controllers. Is this some kind of stupid joke. I checked this out in the game and oh its there all right. This kind of thing is inexcusable. Shame on you! Arrrgh!

This ruins the entire reason Zelda is so good, it has no connection whatsoever with that drat plumber and his madcap pals. But this? Why? The Video Gamer X is really insulted by this, but I suppose I can live with it. Really, it's just Mario.

Yes, everyone you're seeing right. They did it. They put Mario in a Zelda game. Let us take a moment to bash our skulls in with our controllers. Is this some kind of stupid joke. I checked this out in the game and oh its there all right. This kind of thing is inexcusable. Shame on you! Arrrgh!
This ruins the entire reason Zelda is so good, it has no connection whatsoever with that damn plumber and his madcap pals. But this? Why? The Video Gamer X is really insulted by this, but I suppose I can live with it. Really, it's just Mario.
Dan Harris Comments: I agree! Enough with the damn Mario gang! But lets be honest... Where would the whole nintendo (pharmody) be today without their breakthrough characters?!! Oh well, at least we didn't have to deal with the fools!
Video Gamer X adds: Mario does not belong in Zelda. They are two different gaming genres. A guy that looks like a Goomba is tolerable, but having their likenesses plastered on the wall of the regal Hyrule Castle is wrong. I don't think a girl like Zelda would be thinking about a little fat plumber man and his buddies at time of Hyrule's greatest conflict. She's more of the How-Can-I-Save-My -Kingdom-From-Utter-Annihilation-By-An-Evil-Force kind of girl. Indeed I do admit if it wasn't for the pesky plumber we wouldn't be playing Zelda today. That game and character have made Nintendo the gaming giant it is today. I'll bet the marketing geniuses at Nintendo HQ pressured Miyamoto into adding this little gimmick to promote their midas touched character.
Censored  enlightens us: I don't know...... I liked it. I mean, what's a game if there's no surprise unrelated to the game. Mabey Zelda saw this in one of those predicting dreams of hers and had a painter paint a picture of what she saw.
Video Gamer X put in: Theoretically speaking it just might happen... An anti-time causality loop ruptured the space-time continuum between gaming universes and directly influenced Zelda during a REM hypnogogic state to invision the spirited likenesses of a short fat man in red and blue suspenders, a taller green fat man with with a wierd mustache, and an odd green Dinosaur thing. Using her telepathic powers she contacted these ephemeral beings across the void between dimensions and beseeched their allowance to depict their greatness upon the castle wall. Low an behold the dastarly Bowser tried to sever the mind-link and used the Orb of 'Shroom to seal the temporal rupture. But, just then the Orb of 'Shroom was stolen by his lizardly kid Iggy and absconded to the wasteland world of Iggy World where he pointed the Orb of Shroom at the ill fated world of Wendy World and sent it to a strange alternate timeline of Super Mario Brothers 3. Meanwhile Mario and Luigi ate pasta, and ate, and ate, and ate, and ate... Zelda was so facinated by his mystical powers to consume mass quanitites that she ordered the Royal artist to emblazon the corridors of Hyrule Castle with this omniscent being. Oddly enough, this Green Dinosaur thing called a Yoshi came and ate the entire sub space world of Super Mario Bros. 2 and thus deteriorated the temporal disturbance and severed Zelda's visions. Ever since that hallowed day, Zelda stares wistfully at the likenesses of the great ones who had expressed the secrets of infinite linguine consumption to her. This all could have been averted if Old Captain Picard in one of the timeframes collaborated with Luke Skywalker to use the force to strenthen the inverse tachyon beam. Put that in your pipe, and smoke it, bub.
Goron Kid (?) Says: If you haven't heard Miyamoto put Mario and Luigi in there disgusded as Talon and what's his name. In Nintendo Power they claimed that. Look at Talon's nose- big look at Mario's- big nose. You could list the smilalities.
Video Gamer X adds: Well, since I first saw the pair of odd ranchors I had my strong suspicions that they were Mario/Luigi look-alikes but this didn't bother me as much as the Pictures in Hyrule Castle thing. Talon and Ingo are not named Mario and Luigi, nor do the addorn the same exact clothes so this is acceptable. Talon and Mario have one thing in common for sure though - they are both stupid and lazy. (I'll bet that I get a few irate remarks from avid Mario fans for that little comment) But like I said before, Mario and Luigi do not belong in the game period because the environments and storyline of Hyrule and Link's Adventure have nothing to do with the environments and storyline of the Mario Bros. games. They are two separate entities. If you truly get into the Zelda game you become Link. You may even think like him. What would Link say if he saw images of a plumber man who squished mushrooms and eats pasta in a window of Hyrule Castle? I'll bet he would double over in laughter.
Micheal Bailey Says: I agree, Mario bros have no place in this wonderful game. They belong in a sewer...on another planet...in a different universe....in a different spacetime continuum...they just shouldn't exist! I got a good laugh out of the comments made by Video Gamer X on this page! Thanks!
Censored  Says: I completely agree with you. It seems like putting a huge portrait of Benedict Arnold in the Lincoln Monument. Because Mario and Luigi have their own world, of only one building at all, and jumping into paintings, and heroic shouts of HYAHHHH! and MAMA-MIA! in their tiny girl voices. It's also like putting Max's head of Sam & Max into Shadows of the Empire. Except that I think Max is awesome and SotE is a worthless waste of time. So let me end off by saying a little something to whoever came up with that Mario/Zelda crossover idea! (((Editor's Note: The section edited out right here was just lengths and lengths of curses, threats, and protests))) And that's all I have to say about THAT!!!
Anonymous Gamer Added: I also agree that Mario souldn't be in Zelda but I figured out that if you hit the window that mario and the mario characters are in with the slingshot you will recieve a red rupee. Thanks for posting this.Oh and if you hit the opposite window with the slingshot a man will throw a bomb at you.
Video Gamer X Says: I guess using pictures of Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Bowser for target practace have their rewards. But hey, good find! I too discovered that one at about the same day I received this guy's letter. Here's another little tip, although this isn't a tip section, in front of Hyrule Castle are two torches on the front of it by the moat. Shoot these with the slingshot to get a red rupee and a magic jar.
Jay-Rod Says: I too agree. what's the deal, mario and zelda have nothing in common besides the fact that they're both originated by nintendo, are we also going to put the girl from metriod in there too? also why would they put Link in mario rpg, he belongs in a city from zelda, not some dorky mushroom town!
Video Gamer X Adds: You know, I used to collect and read comic books when I was younger, and once they started getting inundated with crossovers, I stopped reading them because all my favorite heros were mixed up and in different timelines or other universes and it became too confusing to follow the story. Although this Mario in Zelda incident is rather small, I know that there is a game in production that is going to combine various Nintendo characters including Link and Ganondorf and others. Its going to be some kind of fighting game from what I've read. I call it a big mistake, because it is just wrong to rip-off a character and put him into another Video Game genre. Games with combined or crossed-over characters are designed with the sole intent of suppling the company with extra profits. The Comic Book companies tried this, and didn't fare too well, and if Video Game companies follow suit the whole uniqueness of Zelda, Hyrule, and the sovereignty of the adventure could vanish.
Scarlette Says: I completely agree! Why should Mario come and destroy a fantastic game like Zelda? It's wrong and it ruins the whole sense that you are in the game. Also, it's sort of like an ad for Nintendo - it reminds you of the product. They have nothing to do with the story and they spoil the mood. I'm sick of Mario and his stupid friends! Enough with them!!!
Censored  Says: Why in gods name would they do such a stupid thing. I know when I play Zelda its like Hyrule is its own little world without any opposing forces from the outside world. Putting mario in Zelda was a big mistake in my opinion no one in Hyrule would even know who in the hell the Italian plumber is. He has no connection with the game. Mario is great but I just think they should keep him and bowser together and Link and Hyrule together.
Roshan Mahmoud Says: i agree with you complaetly thats ~P~A~T~H~E~T~I~C~ its zelda not mario there's already a damn mario game why the hell would they wanna put some fat plumer man in a kick ass game like this. IT'S INSULTING
Censored  Says: What The Hell Were They Thinkin'? Mario? To Heck With Mario! I'm Fed Up With the idiot. He Should Be Dead. And in a serious game like zelda?
Video Gamer X adds: These are some really strong words from gamers. There can be no doubt that when you introduce a surrealistic world and the parameters of that world are defined within the mind of the game's player, any and all deviations from that preconceived expectation will raise questions. Mario is incongruous to the Hyrulian surroundings. I personally won't hate Zelda 64 because of a couple pictures of him and his buddies in the castle, but I will point out the fact that it is an oddity that perhaps does not fit the game. If pictures of Mario appeared in a game like Yoshi's Story then that would fit that set of circumstances and that gaming reality, but if Mario appeared in a hypothetical game like Metroid 64, I'm sure gamers would throw tantrums. Some have brought up the point that Super Mario RPG had a cameo of Link in it. Don't get me wrong but Super Mario RPG was enjoyed by a lot of people, and the thing with that game was that it was that it had little bearing on any other RPG's or the continuity of other Mario games. It was sort of in a world of it's own. I don't think Link should have been in that game either because it's not his reality. If you follow a series of games, you expect to have a character fit the environment that players are forced to believe are true. Mario is Nintendo's Golden Boy and he and his pals have appeared in countless games and spinoffs, but Link has always remained unexploited. Link has always been a frontier character that we know will be true to his name. We will hopefully never see a game like Link's Super Archery Contest or Dr. Link or Epona's Story. If we did then I think Link would become just another me-too character and lose that appeal that has attracted gamers for a decade.
Aaron Trout Says: Mario is part of the reason N64 got a whipping from the PSX. Sony labled Mario as something your little brother would play with, and Crash Bandicoot as something for the big boys. Nobody wants to be like their little brother, so they all wet and bought the PlayStation Extreem (That was the original name, hence the X in PSX) Now, thanks to Zelda 64, the "Game of the Century" Next Generation mag. N64 is back in the running against the PSX.
Greg K1@Verifone.Com States with affirmity: Hi all, I really have to agree with the sentiments here. I love Zelda, and I liked Mario to be honest although I haven't played the N64 version of his game. However by having Mario images in this game, Nintendo is kind of tarnishing the thing about Zelda that everyone loves- a whole different world, where magic and pseudo-medieval chivalry still reign. Mario's appeal is totally different, a kind of fun-loving child's world where everything is softy-fuzzy. I love ketchup, and I love ice cream, but I sure as hell ain't putting the two together. While this is a relatively petty infraction (it doesn't really invole the gameplay at all) these things have a way of getting out of hand if not addressesed. Even these few pictures put cracks in the world we all love.
Video Gamer X says: This is a very good letter, one of the best I've gotten and a contender for January's Letter of the Month. This guy does a good job of illustrating and reiterating the things I've already said about the Mario in Zelda issue. Mature Zelda enthusiasts will be affected by the appearance of the unwarrented inclusion because Zelda is a sovereign entity.
Censored  says: I think that you guys are right. How many games has Mario been in since Nintendo first appeared? How many has our friend Link been in? I just think that since The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time was so highly anticipated that the developers at Nintendo thought that they would put in Mario just to steam people up and create more attention toward the game. Hey, don't get me wrong, I like Mario, but why Zelda? How come no Mario in Metroid or Super Metroid. Obviously, there is nothing that us gamers can do about it so lets just live with it and try to forget it ever happened,
Censored  says: I have been a gamer for years, and I have devoted about 12 years of my life to the NES system. In my experiences, I have never played such a horrific game as "Mario" this or "Mario" that. They all suck; however, the Legend of Zelda is what has kept me with NES. But, after seeing Mario in Zelda: Ocarina of Time, I was outraged. I pay good money and put in good effort to play Zelda to escape the crap sucking out of toilets Mario plumber butt head. Thanks for you time, and Mario, I hope you get laid off!
Kevin Makes us Realize:I don't think it's such a big deal. Of course, when thinking about it, the word "wrong" just seems to convulse through my mind and veins, but at least we don't have to see it carved on death mountain or in some place where we would see it no matter how hard we tried not to (like pilotwings). Nintendo has been doing things like this for quite awhile, just not this irritating. But I never got to see it on my game. My brother found it, and I went to check it out but was blocked by soldiers that were set up after zelda zipped and a confrontation w/ ganondorf. It's way too out of the way to consider a threat, I think. Well, maybe, since those piece of **** paintings are sitting there mocking you from inside the castle, and we're wishing we could get in, hoping for a little quest64 nostalgia. btw, I know this is completely irrevelant to really anything but the talk of mario rpg, but in one of the towns you get the opportunity to fight a character that was way too obviously supposed to be put into FF2. The harp title theme used as a backround music, the big-bad-guy-fight for the fight music, the way he sizzled out and the "perhaps in another time we could have been mortal enemies" or something like that after you beat him. In a game that's not exactly big, not exactly real, something like this is accepted and even enjoyed by quite a few gamers, including FF fanatics. But we all agree that Zelda is a world of its own, big, and needing no help from other games to put entertainment into the hearts of us.
Censored  says: I agree Mario shouldn't be in Zelda. Zelda is a much better game and it seems that Mario is in every Nintendo game. I really don't think they should have that stupid Mario in Zelda
Censored  says: think that Shigeru Miyamoto should start putting Link and Zelda in Mario Games. Link is such a superior character and he deserves just as much if not more fame and praise as Mario. Sure, Mario is a good guy, and he made Nintendo what it is today, but common, he's old news. Who would you rather see plastered into your games, a fat plumber, or a kickin', sword slinging, ocarina playing, adventure hero?
Censored  remarks: I think that Nintendo was just evening things out. If you have ever played Super MArio RPG, Link is in that game. I think they Mario in Zelda to even things out.
Pyro Worries: Well... i agree about the whole mario thing. i mean, come on. Mario? in Zelda? and to make the whole thing worse, Malon(who looks like mario already) when you look up close, has a bolo tie that just happens to look EXACTLY like Bowser. What is up with that?!?!? This is gonna drive me crazy.
Lawrence 'Link' Lanahan Says: I agree, The Legend of Zelda is a fantasy game set way back in time, it has a totally different feel to the 'recycled story line' type mario world. When I'm playing Zelda I don't want to think about some game like mario 64 I want to think about Zelda so how about so pictures of Zelda stuff there like The king of Hyrule and Zelda going fishing or something that would be more interesting to look at than some fat plumber.

Is this supposed to be funny? I missed the joke.

Doesn't sound like gamers to me. Sound more like whiny people throwing fits about things that really don't matter much.

I tried reading the first couple paragraphs then started to just skim.

Mario, Bowser, and others were in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.  Just look in the Hyrule Castle window.  The graphics of the game were also based on those of Super Mario 64, I believe.

I get a 404 on the link- I think in German? IAmSoHappyEmergahwd

Looks like the hosting hasn't been paid for or was given up altogether; I couldn't really find another source for that information either. I found the website on webarchive.org, but only an older version, the latest entries being from 2010 or so.
