sims 3 keeping old save files

Post by rajer93 on Thu 12 Apr 2018, 16:51

Hi,

I`m new here and want to do the clean reinstall of basic game and expansion packs and want to keep old save files. My question is: What should i be careful of when putting back save files into reinstalled games documents? For example if i had an outdated version of save files is it any special procedure to be read by an updated game?

Hoping for some answers and kind regards.

1. Make a copy of the folder Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3.
2. Install the Sims 3 anew
3. After installation delete the newly formed Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 and replace by the copy from item #1

First save the save game files (C:\Users\User_Name\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Saves) to another location like the desktop.

After uninstalling the full game, reboot. Re-install the game and any EPs/SPs you have. Start and save a new game to create the game folders. After the game is created and saved, exit the game and copy your save games back to C:\Users\User_Name\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Saves. Usually the only time you will have an issue with a save game is if the save has modded items (skins, clothing, interactions, etc.) and the mods are no longer installed.

If your using the Origin only patch 1.69 you may run into issues loading the save games if an EP or SP is missing/unchecked that the save game needs (or thinks it needs).
