Custom Content - Extracting CC from game/DCCache
Hi,
For about a year I had a lot of problems with Sims 3 and after doing some testing it all comes down to CC.
I do have quite a lot and I'd be willing to remove most of it (I actually want to as there is a good chunk I don't use anymore for various reasons).
However there is a few things that I really really want to keep and have in the game.
Unfortunately a couple years back the external HDD where I kept everything Sims related got damaged and I lost everything.
What I do have is the entire folder in Documents including of course the DCCash files and merged packages.
Sadly as some of my CC is so old a lot of it can't be found on the internet anymore. (Sites closed, old download links broken and creators moved on and not maintaining them anymore)
So my questions:
Is there a way to extract CC directly from the game (mainly objects and clothes)?
Or from DCCash files?
Is there a way to unmerge merged packages?
Ideally I would like to start clean with only what I do want instead of removing CC through the Launcher as it's not willing to remove everything I want to (dependencies) and also using CCMagic for all CC and not having them installed via Launcher.
Thank you for the help in advance

Hello and welcome to the Forum,
The items in the DCCache folder have a strange file format, and I wouldn't know how to deal with them. The items in there are a result of installing .sims3pack files. And to my knowledge you cannot "unmerge" CC either.
Unless you used CC Magic for installing these .sims3packs, I don't think there is a way for you to "see" which items are located in which files.
If for whatever reason you cannot simply backup your entire folder under Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 (by far the easiest solution)...you could maybe try to save the contents of your The Sims 3-folder in smaller installments.
For example if your computer has a DVD-burner and you have some DVD-blanks left, consider burning the sub-folders incrementally to various blanks. Another option could be that you utilize cloud-filehosting services such as MEGA, MediaFire, GoogleDrive, etc. to backup your stuff. Of course, for that to be feasible you will need a decently fast internet upload-speed.
Sorry I can't offer an easier solution on that end.

Re: Custom Content - Extracting CC from game/DCCache
I think you misunderstood.
I don't want to back it up (I have a copy of the entire folder) I want to clean out most CC and keep a very few specific things I have installed.
Unfortunately I don't have the original sims3pack or the original packages I merged because I lost the backups when my external hard drive got damaged.
Now I've been using CCMagic for a couple years but these are very old installed sims3pack mainly.
Thanks anyway

It's OK, but then my message from before still stands: I don't think there is a way you can "extract" specific CC from this bundle that is created when you install .sims3pack files.

Custom content management is for the most part still up to the individual player. My most honest opinion is, that unless there is a technical reason for your feeling to 'clean out' (lagging and/or poor game performance, caused by the CC items), that you refrain from doing so. It's not a solution to your request, but maybe another viewpoint from which you can look at the situation.

Unfortunately as I said there is a reason for it.
Thanks for trying to help though
