Thank you!

Post by Unesty on Mon 24 Sep 2018, 12:17

Thank you for having everything sims related on the website. There used to be a time, after my old sims website closed down, when it was very hard for me to reach a new releases of sims 4 and some oldschool games of the sims series. You made it so much easier to find them so thank you every one who had a part in it  I tip my fedora.

Just out of interest (you don't have to name that old sims website of course), what was the reason it closed down? Lack of time/motivation/interest regarding the site operator? Legal problems such server and/or domain taken down?

We are using torrents, that will hopefully "outlive" all of us here.

It was called SimsTR, I have no problem stating the name because it was a great place. People would share tv series, movies they made with sims, the CC they found all over the web and some would share their own cc. Sims and house creators were also present. There were guides about the expansions and help with problems. They even made one neighborhood for Sims 2 and a world for Sims 3.
I remember they had a lot of problems with their server and maybe some lost of interest in the operator of the site.. I can't remember precisely what was the reason. It had it's peak during the Sims 2 time then lost it around the time Sims 4 came out. They didn't have pirated stuff so it wasn't a legal issue. The transition from Sims 3 to 4 was one of the reasons, people who go to the site were older and didn't like the Sims 4 as much as 3.

Ah yes, that. This G4TW Forum here is also a lot less active than it used to be in the era of the (very popular) Sims 3. Plus the general trend of casual online talk is moving more toward social media, and away from the classic "Forum".

As for G4TW, the Forum will always remain, in whatever form. We have presences on Facebook and Twitter, and also a new YouTube channel, but these are "extras" only...with the aim of supplementing the Forum if you like.

And it's also just the way the cookie crumbles. If you put a lot of energy into something like a particular topic on a Forum, and that game is surpassed by something else, you may not have the energy or time/motivation to do something else.

Think about temporary cultural trends. For example, in the early 2000s Forums about all these "tuned cars" were very popular (also boosted by movies such as Fast and Furious), but this only lasted a couple of years. Same with these movies & TV-shows about counter-terrorism (probably a result of the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks?) that were very popular in the mid- to late 2000s; that trend has also pretty much subsided now. I know this is getting off-topic now, but maybe you get the idea I'm trying to communicate here.
