DVD Driver recognizes DVDs as CDs.
Hello,
Not sure if this is a software issue or hardware issue but anyway, I've had this issue for months but now it's time to do something about it.
I've got two disc drivers. One is CD-ROM & it's working fine. The other one is a DVD/CD rom & it's not reading all kinds of DVDs. For example, it can read 1 out of 5 DVDs. I'm trying to install Windows 8 but it doesn't read its DVD. It reads it as a CD.
Some detail about that device:

Sorry for not being clear enough. I forgot to mention that it recognizes DVDs as CDs & when I want to open its folders it ejects the disk & tells me to insert a disk.Admin wrote:Hello,

Re: DVD Driver recognizes DVDs as CDs.
Googling DVD drive not reading DVDs. https://www.google.com/search?q=dvd+drive+not+reading+dvd's
It could be several things, first things first.
Have you ever been able to use it and it read all them all the time?
Once you answer that, we can narrow down the results/problems, I'll list the problems I briefly read about, so I have them somewhere other then my head.
Under-powered PSU, someone installed a fan, and it made their DVD drive whack out.
Worn out DVD reader head.
Lacking Decoders for the DVD's.

It can read some types of DVDs not all of them. For example it can read 1 out 5 DVDs I put there. It used to read them all but it' been several months since it has stopped reading all of them.t2sink wrote:Googling DVD drive not reading DVDs. https://www.google.com/search?q=dvd+drive+not+reading+dvd's

Hello,
That sounds like my DVD drive
Have you noticed that it will read particular DVD's? Mine will not read any DVD's that were burned, but it will read "official" DVD's with games and movies.
Mine just needs to be replaced, could that be it?

Re: DVD Driver recognizes DVDs as CDs.
Okay, Thanks for the answer.
But that narrows my results down to Under-powered PSU, such as you maybe installing something recently and giving issues to that, or your DVD Reader head is getting worn out.
But I don't have a lot of hardware experience, so I say wait for Admin or someone else to chime in if they have some other ideas on what the problem maybe is.
Yeah what Lady ElDi says replacement of the DVD Drive, would is a easy fix since DVD Drives are now fairly cheap.

Re: DVD Driver recognizes DVDs as CDs.
Thanks for the help but I'm gonna tell you this: It's cheap in YOUR country dude! If you just take a look at dollar's price in tomans in Iran you'll get an idea of how are we doing here with prices. I can't even afford to buy a new PC & I'm stuck in my current PC which has not got enough requirements for TS3 & its EPs. God I wanna kill that ****** AN. You know who i'm talkin' about right?

Yep, mine is like yours too. And yes, the only way I see around now is to replace it with a new one.Lady ElDi wrote:Hello,

Hello,
You can also try connecting it to a different SATA port.
Or does your PC still work with master and slave cables?

Hello,
The internal connection of the DVD drive.
If you don't know, ask someone in your family; I'm quite sure someone knows.

I know mine does
@Mera what are your system specs? I can hardly believe your pc would be so bad that you couldn't run all ep/sp's. I was able to before Showtime and I certainly can't install Win 7 OS on my pc.

Re: DVD Driver recognizes DVDs as CDs.
Hi Mera,
How can you be unable to play TS3 with at least most of the ep/sp's? You may not be able to use the fancy graphics settings and you may benefit from keeping packages to a minimum, or even an fps limiter. But I think you should be able to at least use all the expansions.
Listen, I have a (single core) AMD Sempron 3400+, 1 GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce 7600GS 512 MB. Currently I have Ambitions, Generations, World Adventures, Supernatural and Fast Lane stuff (because that's my registered game) and I'm pretty confident I should be able to run Seasons on top of this. I chose to uninstall the other sp's and ep's that I don't have to make sure I can run Seasons, and keep my mods. I use an fps limiter (which helps performance, but doesn't make a visual difference) and have the graphics settings on medium. I also have mirror reflections and advanced rendering on. I'm using a couple of mods, Twallan's Story Progression (with 2 extra modules), Master Controller (with 2 extra modules), traveler, errortrap, overwatch and porter. And "housecleaning for everyone", a package of medieval stuff, and all of the store updates. I have to make choices. I play a smallish world, no high rise buildings. I turn memory creation off as not to bloat my save games. I use gamebooster. I would be confident that I could easily run at least all of the ep's and most of the sp's on your system, if it has OS Windows XP.

I have all EPs & SPs except High End. I have my settings on medium as well as yours. I've got over 201 package files in mods folder which 6 of them are combined. And it's not that I can't play the game. My PC can run it, but with lots of lags & crashes (with using gamebooster). And I don't use that FPS limiter could you give me that so I could give it a try?
