Sims 3 lagging after some time of play
The game starts to lag a bit after playing for 1-2 hours. It goes back to normal if I restart ( but you know how long it takes to open and close Sims 3 ).
I have some CC ( a few body skins, Book of Talent, Overwatch and a sliders mod ), but they are all updated and packed into less package files.
I have all EPs and most of the SPs.
Any ideas what it might be ?
Also, can anyone help me with this topic, it has been unanswered for ages : https://games4theworld.forumotion.com/t9355-getting-gigs-in-moonlight-falls-and-extra-question

Hello,
Stuck sims, I think. What you could do is resetsim * to reset all sims in your town when the lag starts occurring. Or get Overwatch to do it for you.
I'll have a look at your other topic as well.

Well i already have Overwatch, but here's the thing I just realized :
Yesterday or two days ago Overwatch started to report removing 10,000-15,000 stuck vehicles or something like that. I thought it's a huge number. During my play today, for a about 2-3 sim days I got no Overwatch messages. Maybe it has to do with me merging the package files today ? Other mods seems to work fine, plus I know how to do it properly using s3pe, I have been doing it for a long time. Also, the game lagged like this before I merged my package files ( hence I merged them hoping to reduce lag ).
Oh, I also remembered other things : the lag is kind of weird because it's not too bad to be unplayable, but it's bad enough to be annoying. It think it's a constant fps drop, sims' movements aren't as smooth, the clock sometimes skips 2-3 minutes ( it displays 3:00 for a longer time and then it displays 3:03 ). Also using fast forward x2 or x3 doesn't really speed up sims too much. They are just a bit faster than usual, only the animation is even worse.

Hello,
That's a lot and could certainly explain the lag, but not if it's a 1 time thing of course. The only way to test whether or not it has anything to do with your packages is to run your game without them for a while. For the best results you'd have to use the same save game.

Ok I'll try that ( but only after I try resetsim * ) and come back with results.
In the meantime do you know if and how can I run Sims 3 in borderless window mode ? Alt tabbing is painful.
//EDIT
It looks like my savegame wouldn't load anymore. The green bar gets stuck at some point. oops. halp

Hello,
What if you wait, does the game stop responding?
Does it have a .bad extension in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 \Saves?

I agree, and I do it quite often (I have 4 monitors on this machine lol). Unfortunately because they don't use the Source Engine (or maybe they do on the Steam releases, but we're using the Origin release) there isn't a borderless windowed mode. However, there is software out there that will change the resolution so the game's window is slightly larger than your desktop's resolution, which causes the border to disappear - it's the same thing as WoW's "Windowed + Maximized" setting, if you play WoW. Here's the one I use: http://www.shinyhacks.com/2010/08/how-to-play-any-game-in-windowed.html

No, the game just sits like that for ever, the music running. There is no .bad extension.
What can I do ?

Re: Sims 3 lagging after some time of play
See if you can load the files in s3pe. If one of them fails it's because the save is corrupt (not all files can be opened in it, if the file is a .package, .nhd, or the Meta.data file can be opened with it). If it does open all of the files correctly then the issue is probably related to hardware on your machine - probably RAM related based on what has been said. You can try the SNAP cleaner that Lady ElDi pointed out the other day (it's in the Software forum) - or if you can wait a few hours I'll probably release my "Save Game Manager" today sometime and it'll clean all of the files instead of having to pick them one-by-one.
If you're not sure on how to use s3pe feel free to archive your save and put a link to it and I'll take a look at it.

Re: Sims 3 lagging after some time of play
Downloading now, will take a look as soon as it's done.
Edit:
It's definitely an issue with that save. I'm not sure what exactly, though. It looked fine in s3pe - the TravelDB looked a bit odd, but it should be alright. However, when I try to load it in my game I get the same thing - looong load time. It's still loading, and the progress bar is moving but it's extremely slow.

And I wanted so much to get revenge on the ex-wife by mastering alchemy and wizardry and turning her husband in a toad
//EDIT

Hello,
How large is the save file? The larger it is, the longer it'll take to load.

Re: Sims 3 lagging after some time of play
It's a relatively small file (78MB, typical is 400+) - I think it only had 280-something SNAP files, which is what bloats a save game; generally you'd find around 1200 or so. It's not the system that is slow, it's something with that particular save game -- on this machine I got impatient and ended task after about 15 minutes of waiting (other saves load in about 5 minutes). The only thing I can think of is if someone had used s3pe or something and removed a bunch of resources (_IMG records, for example) that need to be recreated, and the game does so when it's loading - which makes sense given the size of the save. It's definitely something with that specific save though.

Hello,
Perhaps it makes sense to porter the sims to a new neighbourhood to give them a clean start.
