Sims 3 Pets it just won't work!

I own the actual disc The Sims 3, generations, late night, and Ambitions. I just installed The Sims 3 pets just fine. But when I go to the family screen the drop down menu is empty and the settings menu is empty the family thumbnail is empty. I can't choose a family! Help I have uninstalled and re installed 3 times! I have tried without mods and cc! Nothing will work! Why D: I'm gonna cry! I just want a pet kitty!
