Frankly, it's really challenging to play Sims 3 long term on a Mac partition. EA hasn't done any work on the Mac version since .. oh, ever. Registered, paid users have complained about frequent game-crashing "Exception Raised" errors for four years. They just announced Sims 4 for 2014. Virtually no chance the Mac version will be stable anytime soon. G4tW versions may be more stable than the retail distros.
In a pinch, since Macs are superior in every possible way, if you get tired of all the Mac workarounds you can easily Bootcamp some Windows-whatever & Sim your life away Smile
There's a thread on suprbay.org that's is pretty much everything you need (besides a Mac)... I'm new, I can't post external links yet. Google is yer friend - the truth is out there  Wink
