Is it safe to seed? Empty Is it safe to seed?

Post by Guest Fri 06 Jan 2017, 13:45

At first, I was going to ask about whether the Gallery can work if the legit version of the game is installed (so far I have bought everything except Perfect Patio and Backyard stuffs, though with the practically, almost confirmed vampire game pack coming out very soon, and the small fortune I've already spent, I'm expanding my horizons once more). However, a previous post more or less told that yes, it does work with the legit base game.
Although, what I really want to know is how safe it is to download this game. The reason why I ask is because, about a year or so ago, I downloaded a few expansions for Sims 3, along with Sims Medieval, a bunch of Store items and an attempt on Sims 4 (didn't work, my 6/7 year old laptop wasn't good enough...) It worked fine for a long while with the Sims 3 content, but not with Sims 4... I don't know whether it was a corrupt version of the game or a problem with the seeding, but I couldn't log into that profile on my laptop any more. My laptop had already been playing up for a long time, though (still kicking, you'd be happy to know. Managed to fix it up!) So I don't whether it was the download or my laptop. But my main question here is, could the seeding have been the problem? Could a virus have been transmitted through the seeding?
Yet again, it could have been my laptop (one profile was already pready much unusable, and it really is quite old at this point, and I haven't exactly been gentle with it over the years...) But is the possibility of a virus high? Because I done want my wonderful, favoured semi-new computer to die because of me foolishly trying to get a dodgy free game...

Hello and welcome to the Forum @CrazySimmer,

I'm not entirely sure what your original problem about The Sims 4 was; if you meant to ask whether you can connect with a cracked Sims 4 to the Gallery, then no, that is not possible anymore. You can only connect to the Gallery using a legit base game of The Sims 4 on Origin.

And the chance for virusses is microscopically small. You need to know that all G4TW items that are launched by us, are 100% safe to use. There is/was the practice that people took torrents, modified them with fake data, and "re-launched" (seeded) those back into the system, mostly done by anti-piracy groups. Every active torrent has an internal "hashcode", used to identify the actual content and integrity of the files(s). If someone modified the contents of a download, and then attempted to seed that thing back into the system, the torrent client program wouldn't allow to do so probably, due to the hashcode of the original file not matching the hashcode of the modified file.

Moreover, all downloads launched (by G4TW at least) have the check-mark "read-only" activated in their file properties, adding another bit of safety to the process & making manipulation by third parties even trickier.

Sometimes there can be smaller transmission errors, but that has nothing to do with virusses. In most cases, they can be fixed by stopping a torrent that is at 100%, and right-clicking on it. Then select "force re-check" and wait.

It may be theoretically possible that very nifty computer specialists spoof the system, but the effort behind such an "operation" is usually big, and what do these people achieve by that? Not much. Just one person having an intact file can create a new torrent if needed, though I haven't heard of such a thing occurring in practice as of yet.

Thank you for clearing that up, shame I spent so much money on the game, but hey, at least I'll have the Gallery, and at least EA has a little extra money to spend on this game (they better spend at least a quater of it on this game! Preferably more, but they are a business first, and game developers second...)
But anyway, as I said with the Gallery thing, I had read on another post that with the bought base game, it can be accessed, but admittedly I wanted extra confirmation. And as I said, when it comes to the seeding, I didn't know whether it was my many times ressurected laptop playing tricks on me, or a virus (I would have called the timing suspicious, if it weren't for the fact that my laptop is like a much weaker version of Jesus right now... Perhaps more like a stubborn zombie that just won't die).
But it's good to know that I can now save on a hundred or so more pounds now, and instead use that money on other things... Like upgrading my computer to be able to play all that sims content...  Very Happy
I'm literally trembling with excitement right now!  Carlos is tha man!!!

//EDIT

Hello! Sorry to barge in on this conversation (I have bought everything except two stuff packs), for future reference, do I basically download all the sims 4 cracked content (sticking them in a seperate folder) and then do... What? Move some folders around, or do I play the legit one and then the other?
And don't worry about answering this straight away if there are more pressing discussions, it's just for future reference (a bit too much hassle for two stuff packs, you know?... However, the second that more-or-less-confirmed vampire game pack comes out on G4TW, I am heading straight for that download button! As much as I love them, aliens, ghosts, Grim Reapers and near-limitless imagination just isn't enough where supernatural sims are concerned...)

I copied/pasted your post from the other thread, into this here. Smile  Please try keeping all discussions about support, in the topic you already opened, to keep everything organized.

Essentially, your base game of The Sims 4 on Origin will by default be located under C:\Program files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4.

The cracked Sims 4 game from G4TW will be under C:\Program files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4, initially. After installing, you should move the folder "The Sims 4" either under C:\Program files (x86) or C:\Program files. Then you copy/paste the other downloads over the base game folder: Get to Work, Get together, City Living. Then go under the Game\Bin location, and make a desktop shortcut from the TS4.exe or TS4_x64.exe file. Name the shortcut "TS4 cracked" or something. The Origin TS4 is started by logging into Origin, and starting TS4 from your game library there.

We also have a detailed guide here, that describes the procedure of installing the cracked TS4 step-by-step, and in more details too:
