I am still getting the sims 3 has stopped working error, however the launcher also says version 16.0.136.020001 I have updated using the patch but still says this, could this be the problem?

That's your version number, not your base game patch level. To find that, you open your launcher and hover over the base game icon in the bottom left.

When do you get this error?

Do you have any mods or cc?

I have the same issue. I can't update the game and therefore can't play the expansion pack I bought. So I tried to download the patch, and I get the exact same problem I have when trying to download it via Origin; the dreaded "The setup has detected that no version of the sims is installed" message. I will say that the patch keeps trying to download it. Persistent little patch, nicely programmed, but is there anything you guys can do to help?
