Mass Effect 1 help

So, I downloaded Mass Effect 1 (from here) and I keep getting the following error



I've tried the Mass Effect Fix posted on this site and it still doesnt work.
I've tried updating to the patch.
I've tried running in admin and compatibility (XP service pack 2 as that's the highest mine allows) mode.

I'm using

Intel(r) Core(tm)2 duo cpu t5750
32-bit OS on Vista
Mobile Intel(r) 965 Express Chipset Family


Is there any fix to get this game running? Or am I just sol on this?
