Afterthoughts. Empty Afterthoughts.

Post by The_gh0stm4n Sat 26 Dec 2015, 18:31

Now that a complete compilation of The Sims 2 + expansions has been re-released, I think it may be appropriate to give a few words about the background work involved in it, and some extra information too.

The difficulties in coming up with a working compilation for TS2 were enormous. It all started with just looking at what was already available on the torrent networks. Virtually all of the available compilations out there were in one form or another not suitable for the standards of G4TW. For example, they either could not be installed on Windows 7 and later systems. Or they were very awkwardly packed/compiled. Some only had Asian display-languages in the games, and others were so-called "modified" installers. In the latter case, you never know in advance what good it will be.

The reason I did not compile such a modified installer for The Sims 2 was mainly because of the potential risks involved in un-installing game components of it. Certain users may not like an expansion or stuffpack, and could want to get rid of it. As a rule of thumb, you should always be careful when doing that, with those "all-in-one-installers". With Games4theworld's release now, it is theoretically possible to uninstall a pack if you don't like it. Although - again - I personally do not recommend to do so (as stated in the included instructions).

Closely related to that, if you really want to have "fewer" expansion packs, you will need a different crack file than the one I included. If that is the case, feel free to ask for more "individual" support, and we will try and come up with an individual solution for your case. Smile  But overall, the compilation was made under the assumption that most users will want to have all expansions anyway.

Other compromises had to be made too, in different areas. When faced with the choice of selecting a version of an expansion pack that had either European languages or Asian ones, I eventually made the difficult decision to choose the European version (and before you ask, no, I unfortunately could not get hold of a version that had ALL languages, nor do I even know if there even was such a thing). As much as some fans may find this choice 'irritating', I made the decision with the idea in mind that the majority of our fans want to play the game in English. However true (or false) this idea may have been in retrospect.

While we are at the aspect of language, I mentioned that you should only select a language (during installation of the game components) that is available in ALL games. If I recall correctly, these are: Czech, Danish, German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Finnish, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese (Portugal & Brazil), Polish & Swedish.

Russian & Hungarian are present too, but they are unfortunately missing in 2 or 3 of the expansions.

Uploading the packs to those filehosting services was also "fun", as their servers seemed to be overloaded most of the time. But eventually, it was done, and now delivered to you all, to enjoy. Smile

Again, should you have any questions about the game, fee free to ask. Have fun again !

Compressed, just 11.5GB!!

I didn't open it yet, so I don't know the full size, but it should not be too large...

What he said.

Installation size is about 14GB. Take into account at least 1GB more, for the "userdata"-folder of The Sims 2 (in Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2).

Like all the games in that era of The Sims 2 (mid-2000s), the filesizes are comparatively small. The graphics may not be as fancy as today's games, but in terms of content, The Sims 2 should have quite a lot to offer. Smile  Especially those people who are less excited about TS4, may find this TS2 compilation a possible alternative, at least for the time being.

While we were at filesizes: always make sure to have a few extra GB of free space on your C: drive. This will benefit your general system stability.

Thanks for your work.

Long ago I tried a Sims 2 Complete Edition from another website, and it had a lot of bugs. I'll try this one.

Indeed, this is our latest TS2 Complete Collection download. Smile  Follow the instructions included there, and feel free to let us know about your experience with the game (open a new topic on that, though). Good luck !
