Denovu - the end?
Hi
I just came across Denuvo yesterday even though its been around and used for 2+ years now.
Could this be the end of PC piracy? They believe that by 2018, PC games will be uncrackable.
Denuvo for those that dont know is an Anti-Tampering or Anti-Piracy software that is injected into developer codes to ensure that the game is legit by connecting to servers using your components to relate to a specific code so the game is linked to that computer, only that computer. Even a computer of the same components would be different because they have different codes for each batch number of every model of component.
I think it does give off alarm bells, one way to crack it as such would be removing the code; they revealed its only in non-game elements such as the startup of the game. Or another solution just as tricky to create a counter code that bounces back the signal as ok. Essentially altering the code.
Could Sims 5, GTA 6, and future games become purchase only?

//MOVED
Hello again,
Moved to "PC Games". If I remember correctly, didn't Assassin's Creed II also have a similar DRM system ? It took a while, but eventually that game got cracked too. I think single-player games will still get cracked in the future too. On the other hand, and if you look around, there are more and more games that are at least partially made multiplayer-only - some well-known examples include the likes of PvZ: Garden Warfare, Titanfall or Star Wars: Battlefront.
The trend is leaning more and more toward online/multiplayer-games in which you interact with or fight other players. I believe Sims 5 will be like that. A "Second Life"-type of simulation where you interact with other players in an online world.
That said, linking an activated game to only one specific computer isn't going to go down well with the average consumer. In fact, as of now it is (still) common practice at least on Steam and Origin, that you can access/play your games even from a secondary computer. Yes, you can edit the security settings in your account to prevent e.g. hackers from playing your games (from another computer), but still. People may have multiple homes and/or multiple computers. They may use one computer for all their business & shopping interactions, and the other computer for actual playing.
The next thing is, I'm not sure about the business-side of all that, but if you want to establish such an authentication system you would also need to set up and maintain the server infrastructure necessary for that. And if things go wrong, then yes, you also should fix these things as a game publisher. Given the debacle of SimCity 5, I'm not sure how widespread such a system could become.

Re: Denovu - the end?
Every game that uses Denuvo hasn't been cracked yet. I hope in future crackers will find way to break that damn Denuvo. Great games like Just Cause 3, Metal Gear Solid V Phantom Pain, FIFA 16... haven't been cracked yet. Only game I know that has been cracked partially, and uses Denuvo, is Rise of the Tomb Raider. At its launch temporary crack has been used, but later it was scraped and probably put in long line of waiting for cracking.
Also, big think this February is that cracking group 3DM has took a break from pirating, because they are currently experimenting - will they abscence from cracking encourage pirates to legaly buy games. But, of course 3DM isn't only cracking group so that pirating games won't magically dissapear in 2018. If that thing happens we will probably play indie games. At the end, 3DM is main cracking group for breaking Denuvo protection. They cracked games with Denuvo protection few months after releases of games. Every day more and more games are using Denuvo so those games aren't going to be soon cracked. They didn't take full time off. They just stopped cracking, but the're still repacking games with someone elses cracks. Denuvo started dark time of piracy for AAA games.
