Need some help deciding :/

I've been thinking about getting a legal copy of TS4 base game and just getting the different packs from G4TW. I used to do that with TS3, as I got to where I was too broke to afford the ep's and sp's which is what lead me to this site to begin with. Anyway, before I go ahead and purchase it (or have someone get it for me for Christmas), I'm just wondering if that would work? I mainly just want the base game so that I can go into the gallery myself, and also so I can get the free packs and game updates when they happen. Basically, I'm just wondering if that would work?

Yes, it is possible but not in the way you did it with Sims 3.
You must keep both versions, legal and pirated strictly separated.

The only benefit of buying the TS4 Base game lies in you then being able to download those "Gallery" items (i.e. user-made sims & houses). If you don't care about this feature, it's going to be cheaper if you pirate the base game as well as the rest of the DLC.

Hm. So for example, if I purchase a legal copy of the base game. I would also have to keep the pirated base game in order to get the other game packs? Unless I legally purchase them as well?

If that's the case that raises more questions. If they have to be separate, that would mean two different files for them. So since I'm legit just wanting the base game so that I could get the updates when they come out as well as use the Gallery (I like to upload my houses and sims and download other people's) I would have to do that on the legit copy and move them to the pirated copy... correct? But there would also be no way to move the updates from a legal game file to the pirated one (I'm not that tech-savvy), so I'd just be paying for access to the Gallery.

That is legit the only reason why I'm even considering buying it lol.

Also keep in mind that when your legit game is on a higher patch version than the cracked one (oftentimes that is going to be the case), and you download Gallery-items, you probably won't be able to move the items to the pirated game as they won't be recognized.

Back then when we started the TS4 Gallery on here, users were usually able to actually use the stuff we uploaded for an extended period of time. But now with these mini-updates on Origin/zlOrigin coming in much more frequently, it'll be somewhat trickier to be able to actually use Gallery items, on pirated games. 

Essentially you have to download those Gallery items while the legit + cracked games are still on the same patch level. And that time window these days seems much shorter than it used to be.

Edit: or use the combination Origin + zlOrigin. So download whatever Gallery items you like, and then transfer the stuff over to the zlOrigin installation of The Sims 4.

Hm. Okay, thank you very much. It sounds like it'd be a pain, unless I just forked out money to buy every single thing (which I don't feel like it's worth). So yeah. But thanks very much for the information
