Sims 2 Apartment life Expansion won't update.

I've followed the installation instructions perfectly, but when I go to install the patch #1, I get the following error message: "error during installation update. you may need to uninstall and reinstall The Sims 2 Apartment Life. Please make sure you backup your saved games first."

I uninstalled and reinstalled it, and got the same error message.
I have not opened the game to play it, I have just been installing it, but I am now stuck.

What should I do?

At first let's make sure you use WinRAR for extracting those downloads, if you haven't done so already. If you did, check out the guide here:

Try removing only those parts that relate to The Sims 2 Apartment Life (no, of course you don't need to uninstall everything). But then, make sure to re-boot the computer, after which you attempt to re-install and re-patch The Sims 2 Apartment Life.

I'd have suggested to let the update "slide", but then again, this error could also mean that something was wrong with the installation of the pack. So yes, it may be better to double-check.

Hi again.

Uninstalled ONLY apartment life, rebooted the computer and tried to install it again. Patches still won't work. Definitely extracted with WinRAR.

Should I uninstall the whole thing and try again, or jsut leave the updates and move on?
