The Sims 1 Complete Collection support Empty The Sims 1 Complete Collection support

Post by Guest Sat 03 Mar 2012, 07:41

Hi there!

I followed the installation guide to the dot, but ran into some trouble when I started the game. I saw someone commenting about the same problem on TPB, but couldn't seem to see an answer to it. At least not one that I could understand, but again, I'm not too good with computers. Razz

I get the fatal error message saying "Could not find The Sims data directory". Is there a file missing, or something? This is my boyfriend's computer so I don't know it too well, but it runs Windows 7 64-bit. I had to change the destination folder during the installation because this computer has a fast (but small!) SSD-disc that's absolutely filled up - so I installed the game on the D-disc instead, with the same folder names (Maxis\The Sims). The crack is in the right place and all. Started the game in compatibility mode.
If you need more information in order to help me, don't hesitate to ask. I would love to try these games again! Thank you so much for uploading them.

Hello,

It's easier to work on such problems via TeamViewer, but I'll try.
Let's see, at which point exactly do you get this error? When starting the actual game?

I double-click on the Sims-icon (the crack I replaced the original with) and the computer tries to start the game (the screen goes black for a few milliseconds), but then I get a small window saying "Could not find The Sims data directory".

Well this was no success either, but this time I'm not really sure I'm doing it right. I make a shortcut to the crack on the desktop. I right-click and go to the Properties, and click the shortcut tab, but when I try to click OK after leaving this exact phrase in the target box: "D:\Spill\Maxis\The Sims\Sims.exe -w" I get a pop up saying "Navnet "D:\Spill\Maxis\The Sims\Sims.exe -w", som er angitt i Mål-boksen, er ugyldig. Kontroller at riktig bane og filnavn er angitt."

I'll try translating it to English but I guess there is a chance you might understand it if you're Dutch. "The name "D:\Spill\Maxis\The Sims\Sims.exe -w", which is given in the Target-box, is invalid. Make sure the path and file name is given correctly."

Which really doesn't tell me anything at all. Razz

Hello,

Try using that fix on the actual "sims.exe" and not on the shortcut.

Where do I write that on the actual sims.exe? When I right-click on the actual sims.exe there is no shortcut tab with a target-box.

The Sims 1 Complete Collection support Empty Re: The Sims 1 Complete Collection support

Post by Guest Fri 20 Jul 2012, 23:52

hi, im having a similar problem. i copied the sims.exe to my C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\The Sims and copied and replaced it. when it goes into that folder, the file name automatically changes to just 'sims' and the type is just 'application'. im not sure whether or not this has anything to do with ther fact that when i launch sims1 my screen goes black, a change in cursor appears, then im returned to my desktop as though i never opened anything. im really not sure what ive done wrong. also, whether or not this helps: i created a desktop shortcut, when i click on that it bring up a language selection box followed by a 'play' box-but it still results in a black screen. if i click on the direct application it just goes straight to black.
