Ebooks?

Anyone know safe sites to download ebooks for free? A site with a big collection and recent/relevant books. There is a site I've found that seems great, but not sure how safe it is.

I'm not into ebooks but some of my friends who likes ebooks use that site.

I remember those times when I was browsing various torrent sites and bulk-torrented tons of e-books ranging from a multitude of academic subjects, to entertainment-related books, and to novels. Wonderful times.

On topic: no, I couldn't tell a specific site with a 'wide range' of books. But due to their tendency to use direct downloads (and the common lack of enthusiasm and/or general inability of many webmasters to actually keep up these download links for an extended period of time), it might be better to scavenge torrent-sources instead.

Maybe another small tip: if you simply type into Google something like "[insert book title here] free download", pay attention to the first 2-3 pages in the results. If your desired book title is not available among these first few pages, it's a good indicator that your title is either not available at all, or it is something very rare. I guess that is a generic tip applicable to a lot of types of pirated content, but still worth emphasizing in my opinion.
