Something is not downloading

When I downloaded the fix I am prompted with a question which program do I want to open the fix with, I chose adobe since it looked very similar to the icon on the video but that didn't work. Can you help me open the fix? I am having a terrible time with the sims 3 after months of flawless playback it now freezes and the graphics appear choppy or cubed. I have no other games on my pc and have updated software and plenty of space. Whats worse is the booklets that have the registration code were lost during a move, so even if I wanted to uninstall and reinstall (which I would rather not do, I am fond of the game I created) that is not possible with the registration codes. If you can help me redeem this situation I am extremely grateful for your time and help.

The fix is opened with winRAR, it's installation guide is a pdf.
There are ways to get your registration codes. One of them is belarc advisor which gives you all kinds of information about your pc, including which serials were used for installing your games and other software. It would be a good idea to write down those codes, or save a print-screen of the advisor on a usb-stick or similar device in case you have no choice but to reinstall.
Backing up your save games if you're going to reinstall is easy, simply copy the saves folder in (my)Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 to another location of your pc and put them back later.
Having said that, you may not have to reinstall at all. What you're describing sounds very much like game lag and as you can see, there are ways to try to fix it.
The fix that you downloaded is helpful in updating and cracking a pirated game, but it sounds like that's not the case for you. It's not going to help with the game-lag.
