Problem with Installing Sims 3 Master Suite

Aloha

So I usually use the system Steam, it's where I bought and installed The Sims 3. I went to EBgames and asked the manager if I bought a PC version Sims 3 Master Suite would it still work knowing that I installed Sims 3 via Steam, not actually CD format. He said because I have The Sims 3, steam installed or not it should work fine. Excitedly I brought the game home, put in the Disc and boom I need a "Sims 3 Version before installing the expansion". Now, I went back to the manager disappointed and was told there's nothing I can do and that it should work. He said the best I can do is to the uninstall it and reinstall, see.. usually I would go right for it but sceptical, I fear that I will lose my game or that it won't work again (I tend to have these problems quite frequently).

So what do you think I should do? Should I Uninstall The Sims 3, and reinstall it or should I just continue buying my games online with steam?

Well, I can't see why there should be a problem either.
Are you sure The Sims 3 are installed and have not been un-install by another?

This isn't really my ally, so I can't fully help you, so you have to wait for either Admin or LadyElDi gets back online.

Hello,

That store manager is either an idiot or a jerk. He should know that no, a disk version of an expansion does not work with a Steam version of the base game. Origin, yes. Steam, no.
Reinstalling will not help you at all, you need a Steam version of the expansion. I don't know why it doesn't work, just that a regular installer simply does not recognize your Steam base game.
What I would do is file a formal complaint with this particular store, demanding your money back. This store manager should've known that.
It seems that you can also redeem your Steam copies in Origin. That is another option since you can then install your Master Suite disk. I have no idea how this is done though, you'd have to contact EA support. I read about this possibility here.
