"An error has occured while running the setup". [SOLVED]

Hello, just waited 6 hours for generations to download, went to install it and before installshield has even opened i have an error message saying an error has occured and to close any previous setup applications. Help please!!! Really struggling! I've looked through all the other threads for a solution but can't fin done for the life of me!

Have you closed everything that has something to do with The Sims?
EA Download Manager? Tried restarting your PC and installing it again?

okay, restarted and still happening. I only have the base game which is just a regular disc copy, first time I've ever tried to install anything from this site. Someone please help me Sad

Have you tried to Right Click "Run as admin"? I've read somewhere that maybe that will work

Hello, i'm back. I've had a look at my Sims 3 launcher and it says 'unable to connect to ea download manager' when i try to check if my game is up to date. However, yesterday I installed origin which should
apparently fix this? However it still displays this message. Wondering whether it is because my EA download manager isn't working why i can't install generations? and i'm getting "an error has occured while running the setup" message. It won't even let me start installing the game.

Okay, I don't think it is origin as I have just been on my AVG and added in to my exception list and now the 'unable to connect' error message isn't showing. But is also says that my game is up to date.

I've had this problem myself yesterday. I re-downloaded every EP's + the base game, while doing that I updated my EADM everytime.. and it worked for me until I installed Late Night lol.

But maybe this will work for you:

Remove your mods folder (Maybe there's a Mod you installed that is buggin your system?)

Start the Sims3 game launcher and click the Game Updates button, if you still get the error: Unable to connect to the EA download manager,
Go to The Sims site and download the EA Download Manager and reinstall it or just click Here

Hello,

Please try this:

Open the .rar file you downloaded using only WinRar, which can be downloaded from www.games4theworld.org . (If you use any other software than WinRar, like WinZip or 7-zip, the files will get messed up!)
When you've opened the file using WinRar, select áll the files in it and drag & drop them to a folder on your Desktop. When the extraction is done, close the .rar file and open the folder on your Desktop.
Now, start by reading the included "# Installation Guide.txt" and you should be able to get the game to work yourself. Good luck!

Hello, yes done all of this and still won't work. Restarted the computer several times. I have winRAR, and followed all of your steps

Think I'm sorted, winRAR didn't extract all of the files, just had anothe rlook and some files were missing, I am finally on the installation, hopefully will all go to plan now!

Yeah, I think it's working now, although I don't think i can use the launcher, had to launch the game using the taskbar? downloading ambitions now, so hopefully this will go well!
