Update on the Forum's comment-rating system.
Greetings,
In the absence of ~Ann~ I will take it on myself to make this mini-announcement. Maybe you have noticed already, but a little while back ago we implemented a number of changes regarding the comment-rating system here. You know, the thumbs up/thumbs down-buttons next to every individual Forum post, except the ones you wrote yourself.
Due to persistent abuse, we made the following amendments of the system.
negative votes/thumbs downs will NOT influence user reputation anymore (by minus 1).
however, negative votes will still be displayed as red bars.
positive votes still increase user reputation by plus 1.
the flood control between all types of votes has been increased to 2 hours. A.k.a you will end up with an error message if you attempt to vote more frequently, than once every 2 hours.
Of course: it is needless and pointless at that, to suppress the voting system entirely. In times of Reddit/Facebook/Twitter many users kind of expect such a system, as it is commonly considered part of the "community interaction". However, these aforementioned internet platforms are generally geared toward self-representation and viral comments/content.
Tenets that are largely irrelevant for our type of support-based Forum & community. It is our opinion that, for example, if someone disapproves so much of a comment on the Forum here that they take the time to click on these tiny buttons, they should also at least attempt to communicate - in a written post - what exactly they disapprove of.
As a sidenote: yes, the buttons were deliberately chosen to be rather small. Not just for practical purposes (the attempt to make it slightly more tedious to use the voting system), but also to signify in a symbolic way that our community can basically do without that trash.
We nonetheless hope you will like the new 'features' and as usual...have fun!
