Game crashes every time I start playing with a certain household!

My game was working fine yesterday. And the day before. And always for more than a year. Suddenly today (it had never crashed unusually before) it kept crashing while loading my household. I looked it up and it turned out to be that the save file was corrupted. I fixed it using the back up (that is I replaced the save file by removing .backup). Now it did load just fine, but 3-30 seconds after I start playing, the game "stops responding" and I have to close it. Every single time. I tried saving first, or on build mode, or edit town... nothing works; it ALWAYS crashes. Unless, of course, I use another household. Please help me! It is my legacy game and I have been working on it for a long time now!
I have Generations, Seasons, Late Night and Pets expansions. The base game I installed it from the actually cd I bought a long time ago.
