Mass Effect 1 - saferun.exe and saferun.dll problem
hi,
it's the first time i tried one of your torrents, it looked reliable so i downloaded it.
right after downloading i extracted it using Unrar (i quickly found out i needed winrar so i downloaded winrar from the site and unrar was deleted)
then i continued after extracting to instal the game, all goes wel until it starts to extract and runs into saferun.exe wich i ignore and then saferun.dll wich ignore aswell making the installer quit, the error says it is unable to write these into the ME folder.
after looking this problem up i seems to be something that happend allot with people who bought the actual cd, but i never found anyone who had problems using a pirated version
there seemed to be a workaround, but it didn't work for me..
could you guys give me some advice? i read trough the forum and i couldn't find anything on the topic.
i'm running the game on a standard 2010 mbp 15" (with i5 processor, 320 HDD, i forgot the what the graphics card is but i'll update as soon as i remember or find out and 4g ram)
the game itself is installing on parallells running win 7 ultimate x64
i hope u guys can help me out, thanks anyway
*edit: i forgot to mention that i was running daemontools lite in the background the first time but i deleted that aswel and a couple of restarts later (complete restart of the laptop aswel) it still gives me the same error)

Re: Mass Effect 1 - saferun.exe and saferun.dll problem
Hello,
I'm not familiar with this error either. I've seen someone posting a fix, so we'll try that. Before doing that, try to run the wizard as an Admin and see if it makes any difference.
If not, please try the fix below:
Someone wrote that the problem was caused because of his / her IP. (Sounds strange to me, but the person claims it worked)
So, here's what the person did:
1. Open "Start" and type "cmd" in the search box. Press [ENTER].
2. A command window should now appear. In there, type "ipconfig". A bunch of text appears.
3. Now look for the line that says "IPv4-address" and look what the IP is.
4. Please post the digits below.
Don't worry, it's only your internal IP, not your external one. The internal IP is useless to everyone, as it is only for your network and for everyone it starts with 192.168.x.xxx .
Example of an network:
Router: 192.168.1.1
Computer: 192.168.1.100
Laptop: 192.168.1.101
NAS: 192.168.1.102
Another computer: 192.168.1.103
iPod Touch connected to the router: 192.168.1.104
And so on...
//EDIT
Also, please try this: http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/39023/How-To-Install-Mass-Effect

Re: Mass Effect 1 - saferun.exe and saferun.dll problem
hi again,
first of all thanks for the quick reply
i had already tried running every .exe i found as an admin,
and the workaround you posted was the one i mentioned aswel
(i'll post the error i get from the workaround in a few min, i should have done that in the first place)
then my IPv4-adress doesn't start with 192.168.x.xxx, it's : 10.211.55.3
(i live in Belgium? i don't know if that should make a difference? or maybe it's because i'm not actually running windows but because it's a virtual machine? i normally only used paralleles for autocad and 3dsMax - school related, but those are also pirated versions)
anyway, i hope this helps
thanks again
(ps i also found this fix it's something with datarun.exe, didn't do much either: http://mawhonic.blogg.no/1219686946_how_to_install_mass_e.html )

That your internal IP is different is, indeed, because you're using a virtual machine.
Anyhow, I'm really stuck at this point, it's a strange error and people seem to have different fixes, but none of them work in your case. You could try to use a different PC with Windows on it. (No virtual stuff)
Ps. Greetings neighbour.

Did you try doing as following (?):
Open the .rar file you downloaded using only WinRar, which can be downloaded from www.games4theworld.org . (If you use any other software than WinRar, like WinZip or 7-zip, the files will get messed up!)
When you've opened the file using WinRar, select áll the files in it and drag & drop them to a folder on your Desktop. When the extraction is done, close the .rar file and open the folder on your Desktop.
Now, start by reading the included "# Installation Guide.txt" and you should be able to get the game to work yourself. Good luck!
You're welcome. Sorry I couldn't help you solve your problem.
