Mods folder isn't working Empty Mods folder isn't working

Post by Guest Fri 31 May 2013, 15:10

I'm not new to mods. I know how they work. I re installed the Sims 3 due to many errors. I made sure to take my mods folder out and keep it. When I placed it in the EA folder and go to play the game the mods don't work. I don't even the the message on the Sims 3 select a family screen saying that it found my mods. The only mods that work are the 2 that come with it which are the skip intro and no sparkles on build wall. They can't be out of date. They were working just fine. No updates have been made.

Helper edit: Topic moved to "The Sims (3) in-game problems".

No, I have never heard of it. Can I get it at Mod The Sims?

Hello,

Which mods are we actually talking about ? I assume the ".package" files that go into My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Mods/Packages ?

If yes, do you have the latest "resource.cfg" file ? If not, google for it. This goes into the "Mods" folder then (not into the "Packages" folder).

I'm not sure how this can happen, but OK. You may also have a look at this here: http://nonasims.wordpress.com/2012/06/03/tutorial-getting-started-with-cc-magic/

It's probably a bit easier than the tutorial of "Mod The Sims ".

I don't understand the directions. It all looks too complicated for my simple problem. My mods won't work no matter what I do. I have tryed downloading the framework folder again and putting my mods in there but it didn't work. The two mods that even came with it don't work.

Hello again,

Just to be clear: are you absolutely sure you correctly set-up your "Mod framework"? If you're not sure, I will show it - with pictures:

1) Go to My documents/Electronic Arts and then open "The Sims 3"-folder (don't worry about that language - that's German). Do you see the "Mods" folder here ?

Mods folder isn't working Clipbo15

2) Now if you go inside that "Mods" folder, you'll see the following; your .package files go into the "Packages" folder.

Mods folder isn't working Clipbo16

And of course: did you make sure that your mods are compatible with your Sims 3 base game version ?

Hello,

Try the resource.cfg from here:
http://skuld.modthesims.info/Resource.cfg

Since that info is not "too personal", I'll tell you: no, I'm actually not German. My great-grandmom came from Spain to the Philippines a long time ago. Despite that, my Spanish and "Tagalog" are very limited.

The second the game loads I get the error saying "The Sims 3 has stopped working. The two mods that come with the folder (skip intro etc) worked but my other mods didn't. Mad

I mean look at my avatar. That was done mostly with mods and cc. I'm tired of playing with EA's type of sims. I miss my skin, hair, clothes, accessories and furniture.

Hello again,

The sim in your avatar looks nice indeed - yes, it's much better than the Sims in the "Bin". But I'm really stunned and shocked about the persistence of this problem
Shocked Crying or Very sad. I have heard and read about other simmers having similar problems with these ".package" files. And they blame it on Windows 8, but I don't know what to make of all this...

So when I look at the Sim in your avatar, your CC obviously worked in the past. Have you already looked at your other topic here ? I wrote in there that if you go to your renamed (OLD) Sims 3 folder ("The Sims 3_") and copy DCCache, Installed Worlds & Downloads into your NEW Sims 3 folder ("The Sims 3"), then at least you should have your ".sims3packs".

But I'm dazzled about the .package files. Have you already tried "Delphy's Dashboard" (google for it) ? This tool can scan your .packages files for conflicts. Maybe you have sometime added a file, which seriously conflicts with your hair, makeup, etc.

If you insist that your .package files are compatible with your Sims 3 base game version, and that you correctly setup the mod framework, then the thing with corrupt .packages is most likely the only explanation left

Hello,

Upon first glance the first thing I noticed is that your Errortrap is outdated. I believe this version of Errortrap is for patch level 1.47.
Since Errortrap is a core mod, that can cause serious issues. I'd advise you to download the latest version here and try again.

I've never downloaded the mod error trap. I don't understand how it could've been outdated if I never had it? Sorry if this sounds rude.

Carlos G. wrote: Maybe you have sometime added a file, which seriously conflicts with your hair, makeup, etc.
The
problem with that is that it won't show up in the game, as if it was
never in folder. Like I said, the only mods that works are the two mods
that come with the folder aka "Tester" mods. I get about 30 seconds of
game play until I get the error saying "The Sims 3 has stopped working"
then it completely closes the Sims 3.

I am 100% positive that my
mods are compatible and up to date. If I am not mistaken all of the
scripting mods etc are up to date, 1.50. And all of my other mods are
hair makeup etc.

Just for the record, the "script mods found" popup doesn't appear for me ether, but my mods work fine. Was probably removed in 1.50, yes EA thanks for finally acknowledging that I have the mental capacity to realize what script mods I have installed!

So you've never used Error Trap... huh. Use it.

I actually have that "Script mods" popup - and I'm at 1.50 too. But what doesn't show up with me either is the other stuff like clothing, hair, makeup, etc.

You definitely DO have error trap, along side a few other NRaas mods (According to those screen shots you shared). This and Overwatch both need to be updated.

Edit...Error Trap helps catch errors that your game is causing, like stuck sims and other various things that NPC sims do that will slow down your game or make it crash.
