Ambitions installation issue

I really hope this isn't some embarassing mistake on my part again, but I have tried everything I can think of and scoured the forum and still no luck. I currently have Sims 3, WA and HELS installed, all of them downloaded from you guys. I've used both the Ultimate Fix and the manual patch, everything has been extracted with WinRAR - I've done my best to make sure I've done exactly what I need to. Now though, when I try to install Ambitions, it tells me that I don't have Sims 3 installed on my computer. I'm not sure what to do from here, other than deleting the Ambitions download and downloading it again, though I'm not sure that would actually help.

Can you actually run the game without the "Ambitions" expansion ?

What happens if you re-apply the manual patch, and then try to re-install "Ambitions" again ?

Yes, the game runs fine without Ambitions. I installed the base game, WA and HELS, applied the patch and fix as shown in the Sims 3 must read thing, and then tried to install Ambitions and it kept telling me that Sims 3 wasn't installed. Just now I tried re-applying the manual patch and then installing Ambitions and it gave me the same message. I'm tempted to uninstall and re-install all of it.

Where did you get "Ambitions" from ? Is it from Games4TheWorld too ? If not, what's the file format of the download - is it .ISO or .RAR ?

It might help to re-extract the contents of the .RAR/.ISO to an empty folder, and trying to re-run the installation.

All of the Sims 3 downloads I have are from G4TW, yes. It's a RAR file. And I've tried re-extracting the contents to new folders a couple of times with the same results.

Please, for now, try to download a few other expansions - and try to install them. See if you get the same problem.

Otherwise I have to think about this problem a bit more.

I thought expansion packs had to be installed in a certain order to work?

By the way: I hope you don't have your games on an external hard-drive installed ?

Ah. That's good to know. And no, it's all on the internal hd. My desktop has a 1TB hard drive, so I don't need to use an external for games.

//EDIT: I downloaded Fast Lane Stuff from you guys, tried installing it and got the same message about needing to have Sims 3 installed.

Can you open the registry, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Sims and give us a screenshot of what is there?

LilyV, to elaborate on what Shamrock hints at, at this registry location, you should see folders with names of the base game and expansions. If there are folders from expansions, which you don't have installed, then right-click on the folder and choose "delete".

However, if that doesn't help, you might want to try a manual un-install of all games. For a start, follow this guide here: http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:TS3_Uninstall

After un-installing, some Helpers recommend to re-boot the computer, so do that too.

Let me know after you did that - so that we can proceed further with re-installing all the games.
