Hiya, I'm new to all this and have a couple of questions. I have the base game which I have installed, it's just a regular disc as I didn't know you could actually download them! I have read through the installation guides, and understand that firstly I need to install generations? So I have clicked on it and it's now downloading in frostwire, it's been downloading for about 20 mins and is only on 15% complete, is this normal? Or am I using the wrong program to download it? Also, it says I will be okay with my current base game and won't have to download it from here? Thanks a lot, I hope I've posted this correctly.

Okay, thank-you! Could you clarify whether I a correct downloading generations first? As the favorlock quide says download them in release order? Also how long should a download take? Thanks

Yes, download and install Generations first! Here is a little guide (ignore 1-3):

1. Uninstall all Sims 3 applications from your computer.
2. Delete Electronic Arts folder in Program Files, if it's still there.
3. Restart computer.
4. Install The Sims 3 base game, then Generations, then any other expansion pack you want. Only install them, don't do any patches or cracks!
5. After everything is installed, open the Sims 3 Launcher and update.
6. After updating, use the Generations crack from the file linked below (or you can just use the crack included with Generations expansion you downloaded) and place it in C:/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Game/Bin.
7. Play your game and enjoy!

How long it will take depends on your internet connection. For me it took an hour to two hours per expansion.

You can download anything first.
But when do the installation part you need to read the guide.

Thanks for all your help! So I will be okay with my current retail version of the base game, I won't need to uninstall and reinstall the download version? Sorry to be a pain!
