cause this two are the leading actor of thai movie "The Love Of Siam" and this is great (if you have open mind) it touch my heart and awake my mind what's the meaning of love.
I'm just curious that's why i asked..

I only knew mario maurer, coz he's so very charming in everything he does.. I knew him becoz of the movie Crazy Little Thing Called Love (first love) whom he partnered with Baifern. Since then I've been a fan of this two. cheers

Well I guess it depends, if it's English, people may still know the movie.
Me, I don't watch anything on tv unless I understand the words, since I know from experience that subtitles and voice over can totally take away the true meaning of a sentence.

kceres yes, in that movie, i first saw mario maurer i'm impress to the story and it's value bacause i'm a high school student, and i learn from that movie... how about pchy you didn't know him, partner of mario maurer in their first movie..The Love of Siam? Very Happy

Malady, okay malady...but, for me even if i didn't understand their language (as long as there's subtitle) i understand the values or lesson that the movie want to emphasize even if it's subtitle is not exactly same to what the actors saying...

Hello, I know this thread is more than a year old but I'd like to say something.

Yes, I watched the movie last year and fell in love with it ever since. The fact that the marketing of the movie wasn't really a success internationally is so absurd, and how the movie was rejected from being nominated for Academy Awards for Best Foreign Movie is even unacceptable. I watched the movie more than twice and it never fail to move and burst me to emotional tears. The plot, storyline can be felt related to many people. I can proudly say the movie has changed my life for the better, and since then I have been a big fan of Mario Maurer. LOL! lol!

Just because a film isn't nominated for these "awards" it doesn't mean it's a bad movie of course. There are tons of "lesser-known" movies, that don't get the same public attention compared to movies with the likes of Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and whoever else belongs into the same "bunch".

One reason is marketing, indeed: "bigger" film studios have more financial resources for all kinds of ads and campaigns. And, although nobody will probably admit it openly: the bigger studios almost certainly pay for getting these "Oscars" - either directly or indirectly.

Another reason is that those people who "vote" for the awards bring in their personal values/world views, and they come from the region in which the "voting" takes place: so in case of the Academy Awards, the "voters" are mostly "Western-dominated", so from Europe and North America.

If you really like a movie though, you shouldn't really pay attention to these "Awards". Wink

What is important, is that you personally like the movie.

This whole question of "what is a good movie ?" is itself already difficult: tastes vary from person to person and culture to culture. What you may find beautiful, could be difficult to understand or relate to, for someone in a different part of the world or from a different cultural/religious/socioeconomic/whatever background.

It's pretty much like the question "what is art ?" - someone in Africa might give me a different answer to that, than someone from Asia, and so on.
