Yay PC!
Finally FINALLY I can play like a boss again
I had my new pc delivered at my doorstep yesterday. Unfortunately I was unable to built it myself but I think I did pretty well! I also ordered a wireless keyboard+mouse and I'm using my tv as a monitor.
The CPU is an APU model, it's 3,7 Ghz (4,1 with turbo enabled). I'm still figuring this thing out (I have no idea, for example, how to enable "crossfire" on my GPU, so anyone who does, enlighten me please) but! I'm downloading The Sims and a few other games

Re: Yay PC!
Wow, that PC is really good! Congratulations, Lady ElDi!
If it's OK for me to ask, how much was it? I'm interested in getting a desktop, and I want to know the difference in price from other countries to buy one.

Lady !
I'm happy for you about that. Finally you can play again ! And the way I see it, you got a lot of stuff to catch up with. No, but seriously, after such a long time being able to play again must be like Christmas and birthday at the same time ! No, wait, even better than that !
And if I were to make a VERY wild guess, isn't that feature in this "Catalyst Control Center" (or whatever it is called ?)

Re: Yay PC!
Wow, congratulations! I'm really happy for you!
Must feel very good, after such a long time...
Looks like a very decent PC for that price. Don't forget to get rid of all the crap that pre-installed on it. (Like the McAfee scanner) All these programs are CRAP and most likely all just stupid trials.
As for Crossfire, I assume you know that that means you can "link" two (ATI/AMD) GPUs, so they give you even MORE graphics power? (If not, you know now...) For NVIDIA cards it's called "SLI".
But what the... you've got TWO graphics cards?!
And, yes, you should be able to activate it via the Catalyst Control Center: http://www.ehow.com/how_7647752_enable-crossfire.html (It's like NVIDIA's "Geforce Experience", a little program that keeps your drivers up-to-date, etc.)
I'm sure you're going to have lots of fun with your new PC!

Re: Yay PC!
An APU is a CPU+GPU, and there's a graphics card.
Yes I noticed the crap, I already put the icons that were on the desktop in a folder and I'm going to uninstall it all over the next few days. I've been playing
Unfortunately I've had to redownload everything, my external drive doesn't work.
Which brings me to something.. Did you guys encounter an issue with moving house? I wanted my sims to move to a larger place but the option to move within the neighhbourhood is unavailable from the phone and the computer. I ended up evicting them from "edit town" mode, but that's not ideal. I'll disable my mods later to see if they're the cause.

Congratulations, Lady. I'm building my own PC as well, and still purchasing the parts as we speak... it's going to take some time. lol.
Curse you guys and your low costing parts in euros!
Are you not getting any option to move from within your Sim's phones or computers? Because if not, it might be mods, yeah.
Generally the option will always come up under their phone, at the least.

Re: Yay PC!
I'm getting the option now, but yesterday I didn't. Game is complete now, I didn't have all EP's yesterday and had yet to repatch after installing everything, so that must've been it.

Re: Yay PC!
You can also try Your Uninstaller! Pro (or Revo Uninstaller) to get rid of the crap. Gives you a nice overview of what's installed, and what can be removed, removing all the leftover files too.Sephymuffins wrote:Admin wrote:Don't forget to get rid of all the crap that pre-installed on it. Hey, the "low costing parts" is debatable. It'd have been nicer if we didn't have to pay 21% worth of taxes...

LOL, I actually said the contrary on the chat, namely that the parts are cheap in the US (due to low tax rates). Whereas in Europe taxes are much higher - hence everything is more expensive.
As for me, I'll try and make the best of it...and go for AMD-based parts. (who needs Intel....?! ).

LOL, sorry, I guess I misread what you wrote.
It's a pain that taxes are so high in Europe, ugh.

It's OK.
If you know your way around (wherever you are), you can almost always save money. As for computer parts, you can maybe find bargains at certain times of the year (Christmas ?). But I wouldn't buy used parts, since you never know what happened in the case of the previous owner(s). Unless you can trust the vendor of course.

Yeah, it's insanely high.
It used to be 19%... (Which is still way too much, if you ask me)
