confused how to download [SOLVED]

hi i have just downloaded the sims 3 collection i already have the sims 3 has a purchased it off steam while it was on sale, but it states i odnt have the base game 
i dont want to delete that one cause i dont want to lose my families on there

Unfortunately, due to the way Steam handles games, you can't install Expansion Packs downloaded from here to that base game. You'll need to uninstall that one, install the one from here and then install all of the EPs and SPs you want. Remember to restart your computer after you uninstall the game from Steam.

But you don't need to lose the families you already have. Just go to Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3, and backup the Saves folder. After you install all of the ones from here, go to that same location and put the Saves folder back in there. This will allow you to keep all of the families you have.
