Age-related Bias in the Sim Community
A problem plaguing the sim community, school campuses and Classic Cartoon Forums everywhere. I see loads of people on Sim Websites saying that EA is targeting teens because teens don't know about the previous games and that the only people who have actually been in it for all 4 sim games are adults. I take a tad bit offense to that because I've been sim-obsessed ever since I played the sims 1 on xbox as a kid and I am a teenager. I just wanted to say this to prevent confusion that the only sim-veterans are adults Sorry for jumbled up text, I copied and pasted this from a topic that I believed was the wrong place to post this psuedo-rant.

Hello,
I actually remember saying something like that earlier here, somewhere. What I argued was that EA is targeting younger people with Sims 4 (!), because of its cartooish appearance and content (dying from laughter, for example, perfectly fits into this cartoon-like atmosphere).
But who the target audience of EA is, and who is actually playing sims games are two totally different issues, which you are mixing up, in my opinion.
Also, I don't think that liking or not liking video games is necessarily connected to the age. Whether or not you like a particular (video) game will depend on what you may have or have not seen before. You must have a reference point, against which you can make a judgement. Me for example, when I got my first video game console in early 1993 (a SUPER NES console), I was like "wow, what the hell is this ?!?", and I was totally excited. But not just me; I'm sure that many, many adults also felt similar as me back then. After all, those video game consoles for home use became more and more prominent in these days. Those old-school "video game arcades", on the other hand, slowly became outdated then.
I have not touched the console since ~2001 though. Why ? Because at that time, I knew about "better" stuff. And I considered the old SNES games inferior in many ways.
If you hadn't played TS1 back then, would you today attempt to play it ? After you have seen many other "modern" games ? I'm not sure, but OK. After all, many people nowadays prefer "realistic graphics" and "lots of online capabilities". TS1 might not be the first choice for someone who is totally new to the sims franchise, today in the year 2015. Especially not if that person has seen games like GTA IV/V, Skyrim, and many others. And again, I don't think that age matters too much in this issue.
Sure, some younger simmers may have played those older titles too, and I don't think that anybody really rejects that. But...the question of EA's target audience is a different subject matter.

Re: Age-related Bias in the Sim Community
I don't know... nobody in my school 11 - 17 really care about The Sims a part from me and one of my friends but I have played it since the second game... (I think I was.. 4 or 5?) I'd walk into my parents bedroom, turn on the computer, load it up and play for hours and hours - my mum said I understood it all perfectly too... But anyway... (Sorry, felt like sharing for some reason? )
I've tried the first sims (because until a few months ago my old PC couldn't run any other Sims) and it just seems dull to me, they need to keep up with what's currently popular with the current generation because of problems like the older generation "aging on" and no longer caring about the game. I mean, The Sims 1 was probably out there for teens and young adults of that generation, who are obviously now older, so they probably just want to stick to their default targert audience, rather than risking it. I mean, no offence to EA but they don't seem like risk takers.I don't blame them with how many people hate most of their sims 3 expansions.
I feel like everything I've posted is totally uneeded... whenever I join a new forum I try so hard to join in in stuff.
i seriously feel like I shouldn't of posted this, I feel so unfitting on a forum, I've never joined a forum until now and I am trying to hard to join in on chit-chat.

Okay short point, I think EA just target younger people, but I don't think there's really a "biased" as when TS1 was first released it was probably aimed at teens of that generation, EA, in my eyes, always has targeted teens and always will.

Re: Age-related Bias in the Sim Community
Isn't it kind of normal for them to target teens?
I mean, adults normally have jobs and other stuff to do then simulating life.
Teens are looking for an identity and ways of expressing it. In my opinion, those people are the target of the game.

I didn't mean that people are biased for thinking teens are targeted with The Sims, i mean that people believe that because of this, teens of this generation don't care about the missing features in the sims 4 because they weren't simming before TS4.

I didn't play TS3, I'll admit that. I had such a crappy PC that it just wouldn't run TS3, so I've played TS1 & 2.
I didn't really see these features as "missing" because I assumed they'd come eventually, free or not. I do find it annoying they kind of gave us an unfinished game, some of these things, like ghosts and pools probably didn't need to be waited for. The way I look at it, and I think EA looks at it, is if they release free patches, those with no money won't feel left out. If they gave it to us straight away the people with no money would spend the rest of the time being annoyed that they never get anything for free.
