Graphic Glitch Empty Graphic Glitch

Post by Guest Tue 19 May 2015, 01:38

Hello, well, i have a problem with the graphics on my Sims 3, well, the installation was normal, the main menu looked normal, everything was normal, but then, a pop-up appeared telling me that the game didn't recognized my graphic card, so well, i ignored it, i set my graphics as  always, and then started a new game, everything was normal, just some flickering lights that i didn't mind, the gameplay was fine, the town view was fine too, but the problem started when i installed an EP, Late Night, it was the first i installed on this PC, as always, everything was fine, the pop-up didn't showed this time, so i started a new game on Bridgeport, but when the loadind screen ended, the first cutscene that flybies the city, the WHOLE terrain was black!! Except the lots, which they loaded, so i thought it was just something that would pass once i started the game properly, but then, when i get choose where i wanted to live, the terrain was STILL BLACK! So i checked the options menu again, and all the sliders were on low, and even one slider, the lot rendering distance (or something like that) dissapeared!! Although it was still there, but there wasn't the thing that you use to slide it to set the lots graphics. Chehcking that problem, i decided to leave the options menu like that, so i went to live mode, and everything was alright, the settings were set up to high, everything worked normally, but, then again, on the town view everything (except the lots) is black!!
I found on de Simpedia that it was a graphical error and it give me some steps to fixing it, but, although i followed and did those steps, the game was still like that!!!
I dont know what to do, mybe i didn't followed a step right and it's still like that?
Could someone help me or give me a guide to fix this?
Btw. I have windows 8.1 64bit, if that's important.

You're lucky. The game actually told you it hates your graphics card. I know mine isn't supported, but the game never told me that.

Anyway:

I'm not sure there is too much else you can do, but do you know the model of your graphics card ? If so, are the graphics drivers updated ?

And can you also try and repeat the steps from #2 to #5 here ?

I'll have to disagree with that, that never fixes anything, except for new game releases that absolutely require the newest driver. Given how old The Sims 3 is by now, and the fact that it never had very good graphics card support, it might actually be a good idea to avoid installing new drivers unless you really have to (for some other reason).

TIP: If you don't care about the newest game releases, remember what driver version always worked best for you and stick with it.

Which might be the case here with the OP, as he or she stated that problems started to occur after adding more expansions. With the later TS3 expansions, it seems that the requirements have been (slightly) "buffed" - not sure if that's the right word here though. When "Pets" came out for instance, lots of people were suddenly having graphics glitches, but at least they could still run the game.

From our experience, it actually happens very often that (some) people use very old drivers. So yes, the drivers should be part of this routine check.

But in the end, yes, we'll need more information about several things. @IkerPine, do you happen to know if your computer has more than one graphics card ?

Yeah but The Sims 3 is what, six years old now? And the last update was a year and a half ago? If this really is the case, those drivers must be antique.

Keep in mind that most computer users have no idea what they're doing when it comes to keeping drivers and software up to date. I'm not saying that's the case with this person, but we can't tell that by looking at their post, so updating drivers is sound advice, and can always be rolled back if it causes problems.
