Got a very nasty virus on my main pc - Will be away for a bit...
Hi there! I don't know if I got a pretty nasty virus, if I suffered any kind of attack or if my operating system just decided to act really badly on me, but I am recovering my files right now, then I will have to format the whole thing...
Hope to be back soon, after a few litters of tea and patience!
See you all soon!!

Hi Sven,
Thanks for letting us know!
You can connect your HDD to another PC externally (or internally) to recover the files. Watch out you don't infect the other PC while doing so.
Why not try getting rid of the virus, using anti-virus software boot discs? They can get rid of most virusses. (IF you actually boot from the boot disc, and not try to remove it from within the OS)

Re: Got a very nasty virus on my main pc - Will be away for a bit...
I will do that, thanks! I just worked about 12 hours and made two backups of the essentials (well, 1 and a half, second running). I got the laptop running back after redoing some stuff related to the boot files/folders. It might be a bad update, since I am running Windows 10, who knows
Any tip on your favorite anti virus for me to create a boot disk and nuke anything bad that may be around? Should I take the safest / but extra workfull way to format everything in my drive C and start from scratch?
I wish you a great weekend!!!
Lots of tea, but I could not bake a cake this time, sorry. I got some coconut breat with diet blackberry jam if you like
I wish we have the chance to play MC sometime soon. Meanwhile, let's enjoy some tea and somefun hours fixing our computers

Re: Got a very nasty virus on my main pc - Will be away for a bit...
By the way, anybody is welcome to join me on ICQ, where I should be on line most of the time (I will look for an android ICQ app, I love the fact that we just create a number and we can use any name, anytime, change as much we like, use fake, real, whatever we want, not like Facebook with all those "real people" policies that do nothing for our safety except giving them our consumerism habits so they profit more)...
And, being an old geek (almost), I LOVE to be able to use a tool from such old and sweet times of dial ups... It was so romantic... The chat window was awesome, you could "see" the person you'd be talking with while they were typing, awesome!
I posted this here first to see how many people will actually join me there and talk to me, so I don't get overwhelmed with hundreds of requests if I post this on an open area
My ICQ # is 680969366 (you can also see it in my "flower" icon below my avatar, and it's linked to my "Sim Architect" account and I am on almost all the time I am on my computer, which makes it awesome if any of you want to meet for a live gaming or anything fun!
I'll be waiting you guys there. See you!!

Re: Got a very nasty virus on my main pc - Will be away for a bit...
I had a virus once that AVG reported to me only at 9:11PM EVERY NIGHT. After it removed it, it came back every night
It was in my registery keys - I was 9 year old, going through my registery keys at 11PM one night, removing a virus. I really had no life back then... nothing changes

I think Kaspersky has a free boot tool. I personally prefer G DATA, because it uses two engines. (But don't think that one is free)
I see Avira offers a free one too: http://www.avira.com/en/download/product/avira-rescue-system
This looks good: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/system-security/tp/free-bootable-antivirus-software.htm
I personally don't look/recommend AVG, but that's probably personal taste. I think they spend more time on promoting their products/annoying their customers, than they do on updating virus signatures.
And euh...

I myself haven't had a virus in a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time, luckily (thanks to me being cautious like a turtle, in these matters).

Thanks! I will follow your advice. I did some "boot fixing" after entering my bitlocker password at command prompt first (the stupid windows requires the full drive key, and I don't have a backup of it, but just the bitlocker password I use at boot ), then I got my system to boot somehow.Admin wrote:I think Kaspersky has a free boot tool. Today it acted up again, but since I have been a bit sick (and lazy) these days, I just prayed and restart my PC using the old (Ctrl + Alt + Del menu, since all my three screen went plain cyan, he he he).
I will download that stuff you recommend on another PC and make the boot disks (I am so crazy now that I will probably make one of each free option, run, erase the usb drive and run the next on my almost 4 TB backup plus the entire PC...).
That's great, Carlos! I never "felt" a virus like this before (I am still unsure if it is a virus or just a plain Windows 10 bug...), but I surely got some malware by accident in the past, when I was really tired and decided to install something without checking up where I got it. It wasn't anything too hard to get rid of, though, just some malwarebytes & other similar tools did the trickCarlos wrote:I myself haven't had a virus in a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time, luckily (thanks to me being cautious like a turtle, in these matters).
I hope my system survives for the next few days without the need of a formatting, because I feel REALLY tired and I have TONS of stuff to do around the house. The exterminators are coming today for the common areas of my building and I will have to be the exterminator inside of my apartment, since the "cheap guys" had a fight with someone in my building and they refuse to come (they even told me what to buy and where, that's how mad they are), so I won't be able to wait too long or all bugs will come to eat me while I am sleeping...
Meanwhile, I am having some passion fruit leaves + tangerine peelings + ginger tea and a nice sandwich for breakfast / dinner...
You are all welcome to join me, just a "few" miles down south
