cant choose a neighbourhood Empty cant choose a neighbourhood

hi!
i installed the sims 3 with an original dvd and then downloaded the sims seasons and pets.
i installed everything like you said but when i start the game and the window pops up to choose a neirbourhood i cant choose one. there is the drop down menü with no words in and i cant choose something or click at anything.... please help :-(
