Trust you but fix this...

ALL of the mirrors are executables and contain NASTY stuff. I was surprised that had changed and trusted as I always have. They came with NASTY, nasty stuff and I had to do a system restore and spent a lot of time getting free of them. Like I said, always respected and trusted you, however today I was near turning. I'd rather drop the dimes than deal with what I did.

I split your post from the main TS4 fix thread, and moved it to the 'Complaints' section. Sorry to hear about your negative experience. But I checked the mirror links in the TS4 Ultimate fix post again.


Main fix: Mirror 1 leads to "Mightyupload". It prompts me to enter a captcha, that temporarily opens up another ad window (which I just click away). Other than that, there is no .exe file there. Mirror 2 leads to "Hugefiles", which indeed downloads an .exe file only (that file should be deleted, to be safe). Mirror 3 leads to Depositfiles, but the fix file was seemingly removed.

Update-only fix: Mirror 1 is a "general portal", that shows all remaining mirrors. Mirror 2 leads to Depositfile, and which in turn also deleted the fix. Mirror 3 leads to "Up-to-box", which seems to work fine (you need to disable the adblocker though). Mirror 4 leads to "Hugefiles", which - as above - also downloads an .exe file. Mirror 5 then is supposed to lead to "mightyupload", but the actual mirror doesn't seem to load for me now.


In general, it's indeed a good idea to be aware of what one is clicking on. These mirror sites sometimes indeed only provide custom .exe downloaders. These should be deleted straight away. Also, some mirror sites open ads in new tabs or windows, but in most cases you can simply click away those. Now...I'm not sure if you really got your "virus" from either of those mirrors, but in case you really did, you may have (accidentally ?) clicked on something that you were not supposed to.

I do think you can trust the Admin to do the things in the right way, and at the time those links were posted, I'm sure all links were safe to use. It is very likely that in the meantime, some mirror sites may have changed the way they offer their "services". In that case, please be aware that this is out of our hands, and you cannot expect us to check each and every link on here, and on a daily basis. Because for these things, we need to rely on user feedback - like your post now.  

Also, if you have any specific suggestions (other than not using some of these mirror sites in the future), then feel free to let us know. But in my experience, good and free filehosters are super rare. Many outsiders don't realize that providing downloads on these free filesharing sites is always very difficult. Even if you find a good filehoster, chances are high that the download is then taken down due to "copyright infringement". Now that does not (necessarily) have to apply to you, nor should it be an excuse for your very unlucky experience, but maybe you can still take that into account. And as I hinted before already, these (semi)-commercial filesharing sites "can" basically do what they want, even if you have a paid account. They can take down files (and contrary to popular opinion it doesn't matter if the stuff is pirated or is otherwise 'illegal' !), terminate your contract or just start providing custom .exe downloaders, out of the blue.

MediaFire is something that I myself use sometimes for temporary uploads, but some people say that MediaFire is slow in terms of speeds. The Admin mostly uses MEGA, for major browser download links. But beyond these two services, I don't know if there is much else. For some time I used Dropbox, but the free accounts there have a daily download limit of a few GBs, which is not practical four our purposes/needs.

With the Ultimate fixes of TS4 becoming bigger and bigger, it might not even be feasible anymore to use (that many) browser download links. I'm sure that the next release of TS4 (including the "Get together"-expansion) will have at least 4GB of size. It might be better in the future to just use torrents, and then just 2 (reliable) mirror links: one for MediaFire and the other on MEGA. But we will need to see what needs to be done. Feel free to wait for @Admin's feedback on this matter here, too.

Sorry to hear about the bad experience, and indeed thanks for the feedback regarding the Mirror download links.
The files uploaded on these services are exact copies of the original Ultimate Fix, the only difference is that they are hosted on another website. Each of these websites use different ways to get you to pay for downloading stuff, while I assure you that downloading the files from them is completely free, you just have to know where to look for the correct download button. (Usually buttons like "Slow download" or "Free download", and NOT the "Premium download" and "Fast download" buttons)

They make things very hard for the average user (and even experienced users, seen the fact that @Carlos made the same mistake on HugeFiles). On HugeFiles you do not have to click on the big "Download Now" button, but you have to scroll down to "Free Download". HERE is the link again, in case you want to check it out.
Meanwhile I've removed all the HugeFiles' Mirror links, to avoid confusion.

The Mirror links are really only there for people who have issues with MEGA. If you can use MEGA just fine, please use the MEGA links at all times. (Or use the torrent version, which is the exact same Ultimate Fix, but then as a torrent download)
Since the Mirror links are essential for some people to be able to download the file, I'm considering writing a Guide on how to use a piece of software called JDownloader. I've been using it for many years now, and it's perfect for this kind of stuff. It makes to possible to fully automatically download the file for you; you only need the link to its download page. It even solves easy CAPTCHAs(!), or shows other ingenious ways of quickly manually solving the CAPTCHA, without having to visit the download page. Using this piece of software the kind of issues you described will be history.
