I need some insight: external HD. [CLOSED] Empty I need some insight: external HD. [CLOSED]

Hello,
I've been baffled by this for some time now and I'm hoping someone can help me with the following:
I have limited space on my HD so about a year ago I got myself a 1TB external HD to store downloads, so I basically seed files until I need the room on my HD (I seed to a minimum 1.000 ratio, so no worries lol) then transfer my files to the external HD.
So far I have about 200GB worth of stuff on it and I would love to store my The Sims 3&expansions on it except the HD wont take them!
Whenever I try to copy any of the expansions or the base game I get the following error:
"Cannot copy The Sims 3, there is not enough free disk space.
Delete one or more files to free disk space, then try again.
To free space on this drive by deleting old or unnecessary files, click Disk Cleanup."
This message comes with 2 buttons, Disk Cleanup and OK

So far I've been unable to copy any of the TS3 rar's with the exception of the latest. Its not the size of the files I'm sure, I have several other larger downloads transferred onto this HD, but TS3 or Medieval just wont budge. I can transfer the files to other parts of my HD but not the external one.
Like I said, I'm baffled. Any thoughts?

Hello Lady ElDi,

What format are the two HDD's? NTFS, FAT32?

Hello,

That must be the problem, I'm sure. FAT32 can only copy files up to something like 4GB (I don't know the exact amount). If you try to copy a file which is bigger than 4GB, you'll get strange errors like this. I recommend you format your eHDD to NTFS or just split the two files, which isn't very hard. (You could use something like HJsplit)

Ah that explains why town life stuff could be transferred but the others could not. I guess I'll split the file, unless I can format the HD without backing up what's on it, I have no room on either of my local drives to hold all of it!

//EDIT

I ended up copying the unrarred files only. Not the most ideal situation but for now it worked.
