Minecraft Applications. [CLOSED]
Hello,
I love Minecraft and really dislike playing on my own, so your server is quite ideal for me as I enjoy creative mode.
However I'm a bit lazy since finding WorldEdit
I was wondering if you could have an application system for people to be upgraded to use certain functions, that way people get noticed and you can review their activity on the server and on the forum for both their trustworthiness and genuine use.
Thanks
Layloria

Re: Minecraft Applications. [CLOSED]
Hey Layloria ,
Currently there is a bit of a hierarchy on the Minecraft server Admins > Moderators > Builders > Players
By default new players are in the Players class. The only difference between Builders and Players is that Builders have access to World Edit. So if you're interested in gaining access to World Edit functions, it is possible to be upgraded.
From my experience it really doesn't take much to become a Builder.
Step 1. Be on the server for a week and complete 3 builds
Step 2. Tell the server admins 'You are the best admin' (Lie if you have to)
Step 3. ? ? ?
Step 4. Profit!
In all seriousness though you should just put effort into building something. The admins are very good at noticing new things/people and have good judgement. But I do understand your request for an application system since there isn't any sort of written requirements for upgrades.

Alternatively, you could ask
@Layloria has been with us for a while, it shouldn't be a problem.

Although that's not exactly how it works.

Layloria is well-known around here, has been with us for many years. Trust is not really an issue.
The question is more, @Layloria, do you know how WorldEdit works exactly?
Because you might not have intentions to rek the server, it can happen.

Hey! That's not true! You didn't even give any compliments before you were already a Builder.
It's good to know that it was just a ploy to climb up. Or at least remain there.
@Layloria, I'll go and make you a builder now. But we'll keep our eyes on you.
Just kidding. But really, if you make a mess just let us know. We won't get too mad.

Minecraft-technicalities aside, if there was a formal application form, you would mostly get "applications" from people who will want to become Server Administrator or Operator, immediately. And from what it seems (at the time being), these "titles" are - generally - reserved for senior forum staff only. Not sure if exceptions are going to be made in the future, but that will be up to @Admin, @SeoY and @Edin ElDi too.

I can definitely see this happening. Also as of now the active community on the server is quite small. So formal applications may be a bit excessive, at this point anyway.

Just another thing to add (though it should be clear anyway). Asking for a "higher status" in itself is not a crime. However, if someone asks for such a higher status either on the forum, the Facebook-page or the Minecraft-server, I personally would expect that person to have the decency to also back-up the application with the right credentials.
In the context of G4TW and the related "assets" (FB, Minecraft-server, etc.) this includes things such as a proven record of trustworthiness, decent confidentiality, being helpful and active in general, good teamwork, good communication (with team members and users in general), superb judgment/arbitration and then also a sufficient level of knowledge of the subject matter(s) at hand.
The people who ask directly for a higher status are almost always going to turn out pretty bad. And no, I don't think this is a stereotype.
That said, becoming a Builder on the MC server should not be too difficult. And if there is sufficient evidence to believe that the person has malicious intentions, they are going to be IP-banned sooner or later. Should someone then really be interested in a "higher status", they are more than welcome to prove their capability and trustworthiness by joining the team - and working their way up.

I do feel we're drifting off a little though, she's only asking to use WorldEdit, after all. I don't really think of that as having a "higher status", it's more like, asking for permission to use bunch of commands. That's all there is to it. And in that light, no, becoming a Builder on the MC server shouldn't be too much of a challenge. Especially when it concerns someone like Layloria who we've seen around here plenty of times.
Of course, anyone would be suspicious of a brand new user asking for Operator/Moderator or even Administrator on any of our platforms. I personally am not taking these people too seriously though, I don't think any administrator in their right mind would grant such a request. There's a simple answer to such a question, and it goes like "No", and after that, we don't even give it another thought, except perhaps for "pfff".

Yes, this is true. It's even true for most people who work their way up, sadly. But I guess it's like that everywhere you go. Only a few remain, but then again, those are the good ones

The main reason I even posted the previous message was to prevent those kiddies (some of whom will - over time - also click on this thread) to post here and say something along the lines of "I wanna be Admin !!!111!!". So it wasn't really aimed at @Layloria, but rather the lurkers who may be "also wondering".

There is only one "Admin". And he'll always be Admin #1.The_gh0stm4n wrote:(...) to prevent those kiddies (...) to post here and say something along the lines of "I wanna be Admin !!!111!!".
Anyway, I think we've 'answered' the suggestion, so I'll put a lock on this topic now.
If you wish to discuss this more, or have more suggestions (which are of course always welcome!), then feel free to open a new topic in the correct section.
