Sims 3 Complete Collection Update Help

Downloaded the sims 3 complete collection and installed the base game.
Tried to run the base but kept asking to re-enter serial code. Read on this forum that you need to install an expansion pack first. Every time I try to install one, it says "Sims 3 needs to be updated. Setup will now update Sims 3. Continue?" I tap yes and it says error setup will now close. I tap no and it asks if I wish to exit setup.
I followed the crack install. Copy and replaced all three files from the crack folder into the game/bin location.
I downloaded the fix and tried that way.
Still getting that update error message every time I try to install one of the expansions.
Anyone help? TIA

Hi!
There should only be two items needed to be replace in the main crack folder. Have you tried to update the game by running the manual update patch? It should be inside the crack folder -> TS3_1.67.2.0240xx_update.exe
